1  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Discussion and Questions / Molding your own concrete paver stones on: January 09, 2006 11:50:10 AM
Does anyone know of a good tutorial on how to make your own concrete molds for paver stones?  I'm interested in possibly making a puzzle piece path, or some other interlocking design, but I don't know how to mold concrete and get it out of the mold without breaking it.

When I Google it, I keep finding things about toxic mold and removing mold from concrete.  I'm just not hitting the magic search terms, I guess.

Thank you for your help,
Jake
2  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Discussion and Questions / Crafty garden border needed on: June 18, 2005 06:31:46 AM
I need a little creative help here.  I've been really throwing myself into some landscaping and now, I need to put in a garden border.  It's got to be cheap, decent-looking, and something creative.  I've thought of wine bottles buried bottoms-up, broken concrete, and river rock.  But, I want something other than those fairly common solutions.

Any ideas?
3  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / slipcase tutorial? on: April 02, 2005 12:08:36 PM
I've been googling this for a while now, with no luck.  Does anyone here know where I can find a fairly idiot-proof tutorial on making your own slipcase?

5  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / How hot to melt? on: April 26, 2004 06:20:48 PM
Have you seen those melted and pressed bottles sold as cheese trays?  Well, how hot do they have to get for that to happen?  Could I do that in the oven?
6  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Does anyone here know how to make slipcovers? on: March 21, 2004 06:35:33 AM
I have a few small moleskine journals that I'd like to make individual slipcovers for.  But, I really don't have any idea how to make them.

Preferably pleather outside, felt inside.  I don't know how to measure and add for such things.

Thanks for your help.
7  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Any ideas how to make this? on: January 17, 2004 07:01:53 AM

I'd like to make this for my wife for her birthday (I have until May) but I don't know how.  I can figure out how to make a clock, there are basic kits for that, but the overall design of the clock is unusual.  Where do I get those style of numbers?  What are those things representing the numbers not stylized?  Etc.

Thanks for any help you can provide,
Jake
8  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / Where To Find Things To Recycle / http://www.freecycle.org/ is a lifesaver! on: January 17, 2004 06:37:31 AM
While looking into recycling tricks to make a privacy fence on the cheap (hint: I still need ideas, people...) I came across this really interesting site.  It's called freecycle.  http://freecycle.org/

Basically, it's a site with a description of how it works, it's philosophy, and links to region-specific mailing lists.

I know how many of you haunt Good Will and second-hand stores for t-shirts, old jeans, old jackets, busted lamps, etc.  Well, if someone posts such an item to the mailing list in your area, you can go get it...FOR FREE!

Check it out.  It's completely free, and it could be a lot of fun, or really useful.  I'm thinking about starting one here in Tallahassee.
9  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Hanging lamp on: December 16, 2003 05:24:55 AM
The wife and I would like to make a new hanging lamp, similar to this one: http://www.craftster.org/yabbse/index.php?board=4;action=display;threadid=804 but not so industrial looking.

I've been googling, and I'm just not entering the right words to pop up a good tutorial or project description.  Any of you have any in your bookmarks for a future project?

Thanks,
Jake
10  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Best method to remove labels from bottles? on: September 28, 2003 09:00:19 AM
My wife spray-painted a chalkboard in the kitchen not too long ago.  We write up shopping lists, notes to each other, telephone messages, etc.

But, it has no border.  The idea of a picture frame got shot down pretty quickly when it was pointed out that the fridge (right next to the chalkboard, it's a small kitchen) wouldn't be able to slide out if we needed to work on the water line again.

So, I've been mulling it over for a long time.  We currently have a chili pepper theme in the kitchen, as we're both fans of the spicy hot stuff, and both like our Tabasco sauces.

I thought we could remove the logo labels from the hot sauces and apply the nifty little diamond-like squares to the corners, irregular sizes, and she suggested maybe salvaging the green neck-label to connect the corners.

But, does anyone know the best method of completely removing these labels?  We have two right now with which to experiment.  We have one in the freezer, as our first idea, but we're really not sure.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks!
Jake
