1  Turtles! - Baby blanket in Crochet: Completed Projects by potatovixen on: January 31, 2009 01:20:28 PM
I am sooooo happy to finally have this finished! This is one of those projects I started during some downtime, and then never got around to finishing. The friend I made this for had her baby a year and a half ago, and today I FINALLY finished assembling this blanket! I'm kind of in love with it.

2  Soprano Ukulele Case in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by potatovixen on: January 10, 2009 06:48:59 PM
Yes, I AM back from the dead! After a rather long hiatus, I am actually posting something new!

I have been playing ukulele now for a while, and my baby Stella needed a case. Soooo.... I used my novice sewing skills and created this:

Close-up on the detail:

The sad thing about this is that I don't use it... That red satin lining was a biiig mistake, as was putting a smaller zipper in the bottom instead of a larger one on the side. The gears in the headstock have already torn up the lining and every time I pull the uke from the bag, it becomes terribly out of tune.

But, I did think it was a pretty good first attempt, and I wanted to share it! If anyone has any tips on how to make the next one better, I'm all ears!

3  Re: !!Anatomy of a Crafter!! in Discussion and Questions by potatovixen on: June 05, 2006 10:13:58 PM
Heck, I'll start the party. I just went to take a picture while the idea is still in my head. Sorry you can't see the numbers very well, but bear with me.

1. Half-finished knitting project.
2. Carpal tunnel syndrome from crochet hook use. This also happens to be my knife hand at work.
3. Various burns that aren't even remotely visible in this picture. From cooking/crafting incidents.
4. Revamped clock with a picture of Michael Keaton as "Johnny Dangerously"
5. Ridiculously huge collage of photos of my friends and family.
6. Another burn from work. This is also the thumb that is missing a small piece from the tip, because I cut it off whilst working on a project. That was fun.
7. homemade curtain ties. Martha Stewart, watch your back.
8. Deranged lunatic face, still chipper at midnight. Also, hair that hasn't been cut in almost a year, since I spend most of my hard-earned money on food and craft supplies. As you can see, I'm well-fed and unkempt. ^_^

I could've gone all-out, but I'm tired and I knew that nothing I came up with tonight would still be with me tomorrow. Enjoy! Can't wait to see others!

5  Re: Darker Side of HP Swap Gallery. in The Swap Gallery by potatovixen on: March 15, 2006 12:25:42 PM
Let me start by saying that my legs hurt from running up and down the stairs (and almost tripping and falling on my face when the mailman got here).

Totally worth it. I LOVE the stuff I got. It just got here about ten minutes ago, and I have just enough time to post a few pictures before I go to work. ^_^

The almighty group shot! Contents include:
a supercool messenger bag
a t-shirt that says "Kill the spare"
a "self-inking quill" (which i will totally use in class. ^_^)
three stamps
two bracelets with the trapped bar pattern from the PoA/GoF scarves. (in gryffindor and slytherin colors)
a note with the most adorable little self-portrait of 'Chibi Ky' with her swap package.

Close up of the quote on the bag. This is actually my favorite quote from pretty much the entire series, so I just about peed myself when I saw this.

the sides of the bag have pretty stars.  Grin

And a close-up of the t-shirt, which I will almost certainly be wearing to school tomorrow.

Thanks so much, ChibikoKy! I love everything! The swap anxiety is over! (And I use way too many exclamation points, too.) By the way, I meant to include a CD in your package, and I can't remember if I sent it or not. I haven't seen it lying around the house anywhere, so I'm assuming I sent it, but I just wanna make sure.  Roll Eyes

Thanks sad., for organizing, it was great!

6  SU-FI! in Knitting: Completed Projects by potatovixen on: February 12, 2006 12:22:35 PM
I started to make an illusion scarf, but I hated how the back looked, so I just bound it off after I got through the pattern. It's almost a perfect square, so I'll probably use it in a quilt or something.

the obligatory shot of the square showing stripes.

The Su-Fi square!

7  Re: Calendar Photos in What the heck can I do with THIS? by potatovixen on: January 22, 2006 07:51:55 AM
I decoupaged my ugly boring desk:

I left the center empty so I could have a smooth writing/drawing surface.

8  i did a lot of drawings in 2005 (very img heavy!) in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by potatovixen on: January 14, 2006 09:28:16 AM
So... I filled about 1/2 of my sketchbook this past year. I'd been posting all my work on deviantart, but I'd love to be able to share it with some more people. So here you go, just a small part of the 2005 Collection:

Davin "DJ" Dell'Osa of Never Heard of it

Dominic Monaghan

Johnny Carson (he looks yellow for some reason.... I don't know why.)

Jennifer Garner

Kate Winslet

Julia Roberts

Judy Garland

Maggie Gyllenhaal

Natalie Portman

Marilyn Monroe

Scarlett Johansson

Okay.... I think I've probably slowed everyone's computers down thoroughly enough. Thanks for looking!

9  help with illusion scarves in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by potatovixen on: January 07, 2006 09:40:40 PM
Hey, I've just recently started to teach myself to knit, and I absolutely love the illusion scarves I've seen here. I looked up a lot of patterns and decided it didn't look too difficult.

Anyway... I tried to write my own pattern based off the ones I've seen, but it's not quite turning out the way I was hoping. I have a good general idea of how I'm supposed to stitch the scarf once the pattern is right, I ust don't know how to write the pattern.

If anyone has any experiences in writing illusion patterns, or knows of any links to a good tutorial, I would be forever grateful.
<---that's the image I'm trying to make a pattern of.

If anyone could help, I'll love you forever.

10  baby blanket for my bosses *now with a baby shower picture!* in Crochet: Completed Projects by potatovixen on: January 06, 2006 04:41:38 PM
Wow. this was my first time straying away from scarves and hats, and I'm really pleased with how it turned out. It's bigger than I would've expected a baby blanket to be. It took me about 3 months to finish, but that was working on it in my little time between school and work.

The lady I'm making it for hates pastel colors, so I decided that I'd pick come of the colors I frequently see her wear.

So, without further ado.....

dollar bill to show the size of the squares.

I feel like a weenie, because I forgot to take a decent picture of the border, but you can kind of see it in the photo of the entire blanket.

As always, comments are welcome. This is the biggest thing I've ever made, and I'd love to know what people think of it.

*update!!*

I went to Penny's baby shower today, and she and Mark LOVED the blanket!

Those two are amazing. They're 46 and 51, respectively, and they're having their first child. They're the same age my grandparents were when I was born, and Penny is the same age my parents are now. I really think that's great that they're doing this. They're great people, and it's just really refreshing to see.
