4  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Thread has started getting caught in machine after months of successful use! on: March 09, 2014 04:12:21 AM

As you can see, the upper thread has wrapped itself around that bar, catching the bobbin thread in the process - with every revolution of the upper thread it loops around the bar, tangling up. I visited John Lewis and the woman in the grave had a look at it, but it didn't cause her any problems and appeared to be 'fixed'. I used it successfully for one night, but as of today it's playing up again. The tension is correctly set and I ensured to thread it correctly as per the manual instructions. Is this a problem with the user (am I effing up?) or is it broken? Thanks!

7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Am I a bad sewer? on: May 15, 2011 04:18:35 PM
Hey - so I make loads of stuff - I've made trousers, tops, blouses, dresses, skirts etc. The thing is I always feel ashamed to wear them, I know all the flaws and I can't bring myself to wear flawed stuff. It always ends up being thrown out, I think I regularly wear two things I've sewn. Am I just noticing flaws because I'm overcritical or am I bad?

Things just never look quite right to me, or there's a fitting problem or I can't get a technique quite right. I've got a fantastic step by step book but if anyone has any info or personal experiences I'd be happy. I've been sewing for four years now and I feel like I should be good by now, but I think I'm not :|

9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Pic heavy, two skirts and some trousers! on: April 16, 2011 06:04:28 PM
Firstly I'm quite proud of this. It was meant to be a silly sort of thing that looks good, like if a child was let loose with some paint they'd make this. Making it into a skirt means theres no fuss/pleats/gathers etc to distract from the striking fabric. I eat it! I painted it myself.

Secondly I found some darling fabric at my LFS, patchworkesque floral print. Makes me want to buy a bundle of FQs and make my own patchwork!

(Needs an iron)

And finally my slightly more structurally complicated pile of flesh, pseudoharem floral trousers!

OH YEAH all of these are handsewn with needle and thread. I left my lead in my uni halls so that was fail :|
