1  New York / New York: Central / First official BABES IN BUSINESS event in Central NY on: February 03, 2007 10:26:06 AM
Attention all central NY indie crafters, artists, designers and entreprenuers:

You are cordially invited to the first official BABES IN BUSINESS event to be held on February 22, 2007, from 8pm to 10pm, at The Electric Company in Utica, NY.

We will gather for a casual get together to mingle, make friends and network.  This event was started by Deborah Nolan of babystarlet.com  Her hopes are to hold monthly events on the last Thursday of every month.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via pm or email (jdutt@twcny.rr.com)

See you there!!!
2  New York / New York: North / Re: Any Central/Upstate Members? on: January 30, 2007 08:47:40 AM
I'm not sure when.  I think it probably takes more planning than I realize, so maybe next fall or event winter.  I'm thinking something indoors with a dj and maybe wine/beer too??  I don't think we need another traditional type show but something hip and cool, similar to the indie shows elsewhere, like Renegade, Bazaar Bizarre, only on a smaller scale...at least to start.  Maybe 50 vendors?

Just found this thread and am hoping I'll get a response from some of you central NYers.  I am interested in putting on some type of indie craft event in central NY.  They seem to be happening all over the country, except for here!  Who wants to get in on this?  We could have a get together and plan something really cool.

I'm in Rome which is pretty much exactly in the middle of the state but I'm open to ideas as to where to have it.  Ithaca's pretty hip or maybe Syracuse.  Anyone???  You can email me at jdutt@twcny.rr.com

4  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: How do you not take it personally? on: December 23, 2005 07:03:16 AM
I can so relate to what you feel.  You put all your heart and love into something you make...someone buys it...you are so happy...they receive it and if they don't totally gush over it...i'm like, gee, they didn't really love it like i do.  It's ridiculous really, but completely understood by many of us crafters.  Just keep on making stuff, improving where you can and try to realize that, like others have posted, you can't please everyone.  good luck.

I agree with ERpilly about focusing on just the design on your thumbnail photo.  You really want a closeup of the cute design.  Then, they can see the whole shirt/bib when they see the larger photo.  Good luck
6  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: The Infamous Chicken Viking Hat - Now In Crochet! * Tutorial * on: December 07, 2005 11:42:33 AM

7  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Discussion and Questions / Re: Up for a challenge? I need amigurumi quick on: December 07, 2005 11:26:45 AM
Thanks for the pattern link but I can't crochet  Sad  I was looking for someone that might have an amigurumi that would fit one of our state symbols or be willing to make one.  But on that note...

I'm just too impatient.  Since I'm on a deadline, we decided to make our own stuffed animal.  We made a cute felt ladybug w/ corduroy wings and button eyes.  We also plan on making the journal ourselves too.  Good homeschool art project.

Thanks.  Julie

8  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: Where should I buy my home made Chistmas gifts? on: December 06, 2005 10:04:03 PM

Here are other etsy shops that I've bought from or traded with:

mmmfiber

nycole

Can't think of any more right now, but then it is 1 am.
9  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Discussion and Questions / Up for a challenge? I need amigurumi quick on: December 06, 2005 12:56:59 PM
I posted this on an etsy forum too so if you read this again...oh well, i'm desparate.

My daughter is homeschooled and she's participating in this thing where you send a stuffed animal that represents your state, a journal and disposable camera to another homeschool family. They take pictures w/ the stuffed thing in various places where they live, write in the journal, take pictures...then send it to the next family, etc. til it comes back to you with a journal full of writing, a full camera and your stuffed animal back. (sorta like a flat stanley project if anyone's heard of that)

So, I'd like someone to make me an amigurumi of something that represents NY state. Here's what I found online.

Our state:
fruit: apple
beverage: milk
insect: ladybug
bird: bluebird
animal: beaver
fish: trout
flower: rose
tree: maple
muffin: apple muffin (i know, weird)

If anyone has or can make one of the above (quickly) please let me know. I need to send the box out by Dec. 12. It shouldn't be too big.  I really want this to be special and would rather buy something handmade than some cheapy walmart toy.

Oh and let me know how much it would cost, ok???  THANKS!! julie

That's exactly it!  And I even looked at that site, just not the right pages!  Thank you so much.  Julie
