21  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / About to toss my machine out the window! on: July 04, 2006 02:24:32 PM
Help me before I throw my machine out the window!
I have had a Brother CS6000 since about January and have made exactly one thing with it..it isn't for lack of trying. My biggest frustration is that the needle come unthreaded every 5 minutes while sewing, and I have to stop and rethread.
I was having trouble with the fabric jamming up in the feed and the bobbin thread becoming a big tangle..but my Mom siggested I guide my fabric a bit more by pulling and that seems to be making it better...but still, I cant get anything done when the needle needs threaded every few minutes!

Today I had a new problem surface while using the foot to sew over the edge in a zigzag...instead of stitching it wrapped itself around the foot..I am thinking that it's doing that because I switched to high speed. I didnt have that problem when I was using the middle speed.

Anyone that can help me, I will be so grateful. I really WANT to sew!

And I dont know why I didnt think to ask on here long ago...
22  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / quack quack pjs...first sewing in a looong time! on: July 04, 2006 05:42:34 AM
I finally made something with my new ( ish) machine. Pajamas for my 6 year old daughter Becca, who is also my lovely model. I made them from dollar a yard fabric and made the applique from felt. I have found being able to draw some helps alot in making patterns for embroidery and applique.
I dont even want to talk about the seam im the front..the pattern...whose name I have blocked from my memory said to" cut the fold"..NOT cut along the fold. I though it was strange...and I only had just enough fabric.
Oh well..I seamed the front...and back and all was well.

23  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / I thee wed on: July 04, 2006 05:37:49 AM
My fiance and I are not having a wedding party( bridesmaids, ring bearers...etc)..just him and me..so I will be holding his ring through the ceremony. I have no pockets in my dress so..this little bag. I am showing it with MY ring just to illustrate size and the intent for the bag.
It is very tiny, crocheted in the round with thread and a steel hook. I used a blue ribbon for the closure and to tie it around my wrist...that will be my "something blue" requirement.

24  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / dirt cheap and hot pink knitted bag on: June 25, 2006 09:43:33 AM
I saw a kit designed to teach children to knit at the thrift store. It had all the parts it seemed so for less then two dollars I went ahead and bought it...even though I have been knitting for years, it had yarn in it..so why not?
I discarded the useless needles and the pattern ( and made up my own) and wondered how many children had decided never to knit again because of the horrid needles for this kit..and the fact that it uses boa yarn...not what I would want to use on my first project...

Anyway, instead, I came up with this small bag for my 4 year old daughter...who will be given proper needles when she is ready to learn..not ones that barely have a point! If she wants to try novelty yarn on the first go..well, I'll be there to help her.

The strap is crocheted holding together the boa yarn and main color...OH! And I crocheted a small button, that is barely visable in the pic. I used the main color for that.
Thanks for looking and commenting.

I never thought I would ever be able to use thread to crochet with...but it isn't so difficult afterall!
This is my first finished project with thread..I have two others in progress. Nothing all that fancy but..I did it!

Thanks for looking and commenting!  Grin

I crocheted this bag while I was on vacation a couple of weeks ago.
It's dishcloth cotton and single and double crochet in the round. I then added an iron on patch/decal.
I had to up the brightness of the photo alot to show the stitches/texture some.

27  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Tiny elephant ( turning a small ornament into a pendant) on: June 14, 2006 04:20:54 AM
Hi there.
I have my Father's elephant collection...left to me when he died.
Today would have been his birthday and I was thinking of things to do in his memory.
In the collection there is one very tiny cystal elephant that I would love to turn into a pendant. Any ideas on how to go about this?
It's about 5/8 of an inch across, and maybe a quarter of an inch in thickness. Thanks alot!
