1  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Talking Rain bottles? on: January 02, 2006 02:05:58 AM

My husband and daughter go through a case a week.  Any ideas?  I could seriously build a hut by the end of winter.
2  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / How to make a sofa taller? on: December 04, 2005 12:33:47 PM
I rescued a sofa from an uncertain future a few weeks ago.  It's in great structural shape.  It needs to be reupholstered (I picked up some quasi-shantung in grey with black yesterday for $1 a yard) but first I need to make it "knee friendly".  My husband and a number of our friends have had knee surgery and they claim our furniture is all too low.  Before investing hours of work into re-covering this sofa, I'd like to make it taller.  Any ideas?  I'm talking about lifting it about a foot.

My first thought was to get some pallets and size them to the base, then laquer them once they're on there.  It's the kind of sofa that has screw-in legs and a wood frame.

Anyone have any experience with this?
3  UNITED STATES / Alaska / Crafters Smackdown on: November 20, 2005 12:05:03 AM
I'm in Anchorage and I've been lurking at Craftster (although I have trouble saying the actual word) for a while.  It occurs to me that some of you here in Anchorage might be interested in a Fur Rondy event that my preschool/afterschool program is sponsoring.  It's called Crafters Smackdown and it's February 26th.  There is a fee to join for each team (of up to 4 people).  It's loosely based on Craft Corner Death Match.
It's a fundraiser for the nonprofit org that is hosting it, and we're a great org.

If anyone's interested in it, look at the Fur Rondy website and check it out.
