71  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / candle making in glass jars? on: November 27, 2005 06:34:17 AM
Hi!  Im just wondering if there is any guideline for making candles in glass jars.  What I want to do is buy some thrift store glasses (like drinking glasses), armour etch them, and then pour a candle .  I just don't know if all glass can withstand the heat.  Anyone know?  thanks!
72  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / leg warmers/ thigh highs? on: November 22, 2005 07:38:01 AM
OK.. I want to make some leg warmers, or even thigh highs.  SEWN, not knit or crocheted.  Once I just cut the top of some cable knit tights off and added an elastic band, but now they're too loose!  I just want some funky, nice added warmpth for the winter time to wear over my tights.  Anyone ever attempted sewing some of these?  I dont mean the floppy bell bottom looking ones, but tight.?  Any ideas?  THANKS!!
73  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Snoopy for President T-shirt??? on: November 22, 2005 07:21:42 AM
Hey all.. I am desparately searching for a "snoopy for president" t-shirt.  My sister was telling me about it and she wants one really badly for christmas.  I have searched EVERYWHERE online and cannot find one anywhere....  She said it is a pic. of snoopy, red baron esc.  with the aviator hat and goggles, and it says snoopy for president.  I've found buttons that have this slogan, but snoopy is wearing an uncle sam hat.  (yuck)  Has anyone even SEEN one of these t's?? I haven't.  Or even an iron on so that I can make the shirt myself?  Desparate, desparate desparate
74  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / free fabric/ supplies for charity board? on: November 20, 2005 11:53:58 AM
Hey all!  REALLY not sure where this question should go.. or if there is already a post or category for this anywhere.. but here is my question / suggestion..  (moderators feel free to repost this somewhere it belongs!)  (OOPS>>JUST FOUND THE CHARITY SECTION>> WILL POST THIS HERE!)
I was cleaning house today and have a box FULL of fabric, zipps, notions, etc. that I dont want anymore and dont have the energy to sell them on ebay, and don't really want to take the time to shoot photos of them or even get money for them anyway. I could post it in the swap/classifieds, but I really dont want anything in return.. I just want to clean out my fabric closet!!   I was thinking of giving them to goodwill, but then.. I have a feeling they will just sit there in a box for years and then get trashed.  and then I thought of all the great crafters here who might have use for them... more use than sitting in a box at goodwill anyway...

so.. what if there were a free / donations section.. where you could just moderately describe what you have.. and maybe someone might want it??  It would be great to have them somehow go to use for some kind of charity?  For example, I recently bought a bunch of fabric to make my mom some chemo caps.  I now have a bunch of this fabric leftover that I don't particularly like, but don't want to throw it away, I want to give it to someone who can use it! I bought the pattern for the caps online from a woman who sells patterns, but in return for her sending you the patterns, you have to donate one handmade cap back to her and she sends them to cancer patients.  I thought that was a fabulous idea..
and maybe this donation thing could work the same way... for instance, if you get a bunch of free fabric, or yarn or something maybe you could make one little thing (winter hat, scarf, etc) and donate it to children in need ... or something.. I dont know.. any suggestions,
??  Probably too complicated, I know!!
Anyway, either way, I DO have a bunch of flowery fabric up for grabs, and some zippers, and some wind-sock like fabric.  free. whoever wants it!
