1  Re: Recipe Book Swap Gallery!!! in The Swap Gallery by indigokat on: February 10, 2007 07:56:16 AM
Hello,

I received from Roberta Mac yesterday. She did a wonderful job crafting - and it's her first swap!! She sent a wooden recipe box that she painted and decorated in retro black and white ribbon and applique -- including these adorable dangling cutlery. She sent some really interesting recipes including one I'm making tomorrow (I'll post results).

And she added really cute retro/kitchen notepads,  a recipe book for 'Grilling like a Man'  Cheesy

She also included a tin with 2 types of cookies in them. I had 2 friends over Friday with their toddlers and we pretty much devoured the batch. Very, very yummy!

Hi,

I received the most amazing package from my totally awesome swap partner (she has been so understanding about me sending late - sick x2 toddler and a hubby out of town) Prepare to be seriously jealous!!! I'm overwhelmed!

VegBee made me the most gorgeous heavy duty library tote bag (just in time for me to go pick up 7 books, 10 CDs and 2 DVDs on hold at my branch today). The fabric is this hip retro print with browns and teal and pink and then a pretty pink daisy interior with long, loooong sturdy corderoy straps. I love, love, love it!!! My librarian noticed it right away because normally I'm carrying 2 wimpy totes to haul my stash.  Cheesy

And lookee lookee - a soft organic cotton (ahhh) long sleeved black tee (my uniform) with my boys on it. (I heart Beat Literature/poetry!)

And if that wasn't enough to spoil me (and I do feel spoiled!) she made me a fun little lip balm holder (so handy for not losing my Burt's Bees!)

AND these gorgeous necklaces. I adore these colors but one is for me and one for my daughter.  Wink

AND she made this gorgeous sage colored corderoy backpack for my library-loving toddler. VegBee did such a great job with the detail work on this!! And I know it's hard to read the tag from my photo but it says "Follow the Reader"! YAY!!! There is plenty of room for books - I think Astrid has 2-3 books AND a dolly in the backpack in this photo.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

Percy made it home and ShaynaYasha really outdid herself with his items. I'll post the photos tomorrow with the story. Let's just say one little visitor went out and two little visitors came home ...

Hi,

Sorry to post the teaser and then not follow up with the amazing details of Percy's trip. We had a second (aaaagh!) run of that flu around here and then my husband was out of town on a job interview so this week blew by in a fog.

So, my Percy is a very rare breed - so rare that he finds life rather lonely. He is a Pig-Bear, you see. A bear in every other regard but his nose is definitely a pig's snout. (drunken factory workers?? who knows - he came from a Halloween carnival). Well, while visiting down Stephanie's way he met AND MARRIED Penelope the Bear-Pig. See his lovely bride below (she came with faux fur stole and diamond ring on her paw). I've been warned that she's a little high maintenance   but as her ad-hoc mother-in-law she's been quite charming so far!

We also got an assortment of fun souvenirs from Percy's trip - an authentic clown's nose from the Ringley Bros. Circus, a fun sippy cup from a safari/zoo place, an always needed thimble and a snowman stuffie (that my daughter took sledding today - he has been riding around in her coat pocket since he came to live with us).

AND - total swap anxiety - my partner put so much creativity into her photo book. She made this gorgeous and fun fabric cover for the book, took some really fun photos and wrote a hysterical journal of Percy's trip. Plus a family cookie recipe!! mmmmm

Thanks for everything!! OH - and I have to put those missing items in the mail. (Sid did some silkscreening at the Warhol Museum)

Hey,

Sid is on his way home tomorrow morning. My toddler is sick so I arranged for the postman to pick Sid up so he can go home to his family. I was one of those Northerners sort of complaining about the lack of winter but when the cold weather and snow just hit us I was not prepared. Yikes!

Here is Sid in the famous Silver Clouds room at the Andy Warhol Museum duplicating Andy's 1966 installation. It is so much fun to stand in the room and bump the balloons around.  Smiley

I'm sorry - I forgot to post a send photo.

Sid is the beautiful blue dragon that came to visit us in Pittsburgh. Here he is saying Bon Voyage to Percy the PigBear as he heads into his first class Priority accommodations to Florida.

Sid is having a blast. We had the stomach flu this week so we've been taking it easy but we have lots more to do and see before he heads home.  And Sid took care of his family when they were sick at home before coming to see us so he made an excellent nursemaid - albeit from a very safe distance away.  Wink

6  Re: Baby/Kid Stuff Swap (Round 4) in The Swap Gallery by indigokat on: December 22, 2006 11:51:49 AM
YAY - I'm glad you liked it! I think I noted there were several failed projects that I started for your daughter, but that's what I like about swaps ... I always TRY something new (and there are always bumps on the road to learning new skills).

AND for once I did take photos before I sent. I hope you had a great trip! I know it must have been hard to be away from your little one!

On to the goodies:

Madmatigan will have to explain the Polka Rama shirt ... I thought it was sweet that she bonds with her grandparents with music.  Smiley

I also got together with some friends and we all made some kiddie aprons. (I had told my other partner that I was so thrilled she made an apron herself for Astrid because I've always made gifts for others and never made one for my own daughter).

The new Craftster rules now ban CDs in swaps but since this one was underway I was able to still send some CDs for Elora's listening and dancing pleasure. I do a musical playgroup/dance party at my house so I've been collecting good kids music and also adult music that is fun for kids. I sent 5 CDs full of rock, folk, world, dance, silliness, rockabilly, singalongs. (I can do personal swaps too if anyone wants new music for kids).

And lastly ... a found alphabet print for Elora. I got addicted to collecting photo alphabet a few years ago on a photography group. These make great gifts so get out your camera and tune your eye to those letters around you.  Wink

7  Re: Baby/Kid Stuff Swap (Round 4) in The Swap Gallery by indigokat on: December 04, 2006 03:34:26 PM
Hi,

WOW - the gallery has been busy and this is the first chance I've gotten to visit it. I love seeing all the cute and clever stuff. I've also never heard of a balloon cover - and I loved the knee covers too especially when my daughter was crawling last winter on chilly hard wood floors.

Well, right before I had a playgroup arrive at my house today my package from igobylorib arrived. She just crafted the most darling things for my daughter.
(thanks, igobylorib!!)

I had written in my questionaire that Astrid loved nature so we received a cute appliqued tee with a tree on it. The fabric is really cute - a girl and her whirlygigs, birds, etc. Astrid had to tell me ALL about each item. And then she made the cutest stuffie toy - it's a tree with little apples that are velcro-ed (sp?) on. This was a huge hit during playgroup as they are all learning to count. AND get this --- a group of toddlers ACTUALLY sharing a toy??? Unheard of!  Wink

Astrid kissing her stuffie (and house destroyed by playgroup in background)

And then she made the most adorable reversable apron with retro cowboy fabric on one side (playing the geee-tar) and a fun orange polka dot print on the other (which matches my Fiestaware kitchen perfectly). And it was just in time as we had started making Christmas cookies.  Smiley
Action shot of cowboy side:

And the polka dot side:

And lastly an adorable pillowcase in the cowboy fabric trimmed in ribbon and embellished with a fun flower. This is perfect to put on one of the pillows in her reading nook.

Sorry for the blurry photos - my camera battery was close to dead so I squeezed these out before it died.

I'm in goodie heaven - macaulkv sent along some promo bits, Japanese candy and some fun little doodads like Garbage Pail Kids (ahh the memories) and a Fortune Teller Fish (he told me that Santorum was out - woohoo! - so he's a little behind on things) Smiley

I'm going to post some photos but macaulkv, do you want to post the playlist?
If not, I can type it up later. Her mix is full of French mod-pop and Japanese art punk. Love it!

The whole she-bang:
