1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Basic Bonnet from Last Minute Knitted Gifts on: August 10, 2006 05:51:10 PM
Hello everyone!

I'm in the final stages of knitting the Basic Bonnet from LMKG and I'm in quite the pickle.

Has anyone else encountered any problems with attaching the I-cord to the bonnet brim?  I keep reading the instructions and I just can't figure it out for the life of me.  My mom and I have been working on it all night, and we haven't a clue at this point.

Any help or advice would be really appreciated!
2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: THE GENERIC BOYFRIEND GIFT THREAD: A How-To! on: August 17, 2005 07:08:41 PM
One of the best gifts I ever made a partner was a Hunter S. Thompson "action figure" I made for an ex-boyf a few years ago.

I took a Ken doll and modified it to that it looked like Hunter from his Fear and Loathing days - complete with short-shorts, cigarette holder and "Welcome to Vegas" sign.  I wish I had taken a photo.

It was a great gift - homemade, inexpensive and with lots of though put into it.  He freaked out big time.
3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: City swap? on: June 30, 2005 07:26:11 AM
I think this is a fantastic idea, you could even ask people what part of the world, or country they would be interested in getting stuff from (ie: somewhere sunny, a capital city, etc.)

I would definetely sign up for this one!

I can't wait to get started on this one - I already have a ton of ideas.

Alrighty.  candysprinkles got my package this week, so I'm going ahead and posting pics.

A hoodie stenciled with the Misfits logo.

A cd full of Jem first two "albums" (Jem and Outrageous).  PS - you can get TONS!!! of Jem/Misfits music from www.jemunlimited.com - it was an invaluable resource for this swap.

Earrings, inspired by the infamous "Showtime Synergy" earrings that Jerrica/Jem wears.

A shrinky-dink brooch of Jerrica (sorry about the blurriness).

Magnets featuring the original box art from the first edition Hologram and Misfit dolls.

A Jem doll - from the research I've done she's apparently "Rock n' Curl Jem" (I apologize for her state of undress).

I have had SO much fun with this swap.  After I picked up candysprinkles' Jem doll at the local thrift shop, I started looking for more.  This has now lead to an obsession!  I never owned Jem dolls as a kid - but I sure do now!

Awesome swap everybody!

Thanks again candysprinkles!!! Everything is so beautiful and I love every piece of that package - I've already worn the tank top to work and everyone was speachless/jealous!

Everything was made with so much thought and time put into it - I hope your package gets to you soon!

Alright, so as promised (albeit late) here is what emerald6 crafted for me - sorry, I don't have a before:

Zeus throwing thunderbolts at screaming/running campers in a forest - it almost made me pee my pants when I opened it.

Thanks SO much emerald6!  You rock grrl!

Alrighty! Here's all the supercool stuff I got from smeared.ink!

A fantastic flower pin!

A beautiful bag - which I will get A LOT of use out of.

A t-shirt with a pic of Sarah Slean stenciled on (I'm wearing right now).

A t-shirt with the word "Mushaboom" from a Feist song stenciled on it.

I LOVE everything so much!  Thanks again smeared.ink!

So smeared.ink has received her package - so I thought it would be a good timet to post everything I made:

Umbrella - you can't see it very well in this shot but there are stars drawn on it.

Black shimmery pencil skirt, with a skull and crossbones stencil.

Record bag, with a record stenciled on it.

Ice Cream Shrinky-Dink earrings (sorry for the fuzzy photo)

Smashing Pumpkins brooch made from microscope slides, with a Bob Masse image inside (Masse is a supercool Canadian artist who has done crazy psychedellic posters for bands from 60s bands to today's bands).  The image is from the Pumpkins' 1996 tour poster - the other pins are from my work.

A pink sparkly belt buckle with a picture of Molly Ringwald from The Breakfast Club.

Here's what I did for Emerald:

BEFORE:

AFTER:

Left Side:

Right Side:

I tried to compliment the existing picture, as well as reflect on the Victorian era.  I used a key cabinet from IKEA, took off the door and painted and embellished it to my heart's content.  The image of the woman on the left side is actually a picture of the artist who painted the original painting.  The typing in the bottom left corner of the box is a definition of the Impressionist movement - which this painting is from.

Emerald sent me an AWESOME picture too!  I'll post before and after's tommorow.
