Thanks!  I used something from Jo-Anne's called Licorice.  It's 100% wool.  Last time I was there, they actually had some reasonable yarns under their own brand label.

Hey all!  
Here is my solution to the vogue vest disaster:
I picked up stitches around the neck and worked in 2x2 rib, decreasing with sl 1, k2tog, psso at the center front v. This was my first Vogue pattern (I'm an interweave girl) and it might be my last!  But I am happy with the results now.
