5791  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Harry Potter Fave Character Swap (SIGNUPS 5/14 - 5/28; MAIL BY 6/19/06) on: May 18, 2006 08:00:40 PM
Yes, we do have to be careful so as not to spoil anyone's surprise.  I know that at least one person here just recently finished the 6th book.  We discussed the BIG surprise out of that book in PM's instead of in the thread.

Once we get partners, you can decide if you want to craft for one fave character or two or whatever you two are comfortable with.  We just want to make the crafting specific to characters and not houses.  Favorite house is a separate swap that we'll be doing down the line - was it 3rd on the list?

Thanks for bringing up the Snape/Judas post, Cinderly!  That would have probably been mine.  It's my pet theory.  It dovetails nicely with JK's style, doesn't it?

*sigh* Getting the Hang of Thursdays is wonderful, isn't it?  It's well written, logical and uses a lot of intelligence.

Yep, differing viewpoints are always good, just try to keep it nice and be open-minded!

Here's a great tutorial and it sounds like what you want:

It was done by someone here on craftster!

I checked out that site and it looks like she's showing how to paint a glass coaster using a template and then to put felt on the back of it.

It sounds like what you want is to use a sealant on the top of the pictures.  You're using cork coasters, right?  Let me see if I can find something else for you.

kityeyes - Not THAT was funny!!

I think that the 'ship swap was down toward the middle of the list.  I think it's funny when people get so outrages over someone making fun of their favorite 'ship.  They take it so personally.  Me, I know that a lot of people are just icked out by Snape/Hermione, but that's ok with me. Smiley

Wow - so much going on over here!  I'm glad to hear that we'll be starting to stalk soon!

I'm really looking forward to being in this swap!

OMG!!! ourglasslake - we must be soulmates!!LOL  That is my all time fave fanfic also!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I simply can't believe it! How funny.

Maybe you and I SHOULD be paired up and we could each do a bound copy for the other, eh?LOL

Kristen - this is my fave fanfiction site, but that's because I (and ourglasslake) like Snape/Hermione fanfic:

http://ashwinder.sycophanthex.com/

All the stories here deal with the Snape/Hermione relationship.  There's the sweet to the raunchy, take your pick!LOL

ourglasslake - exactly!  BookSnape makes you feel sorry for him and detest him at the same time.  I personally thinik that Snape is JK's best character.  He's the only one that I feel is really in the gray area.  99% of her characters are either good or bad, with Snape you just aren't sure.

Hedwig?  Dobby?  They're all characters as far as I'm concerned.  Whatever your fave is will be fine.  Nearly Headless Nick?  A character!

Kristen81 - don't get us wrong, movie Snape is wonderful, but he's still Alan Rickman.  Book Snape is (correct me if I'm wrong ladies) slimmer, longer hair, more hooked nose, generally more tormented and unsure of himself than movie Snape.

SeeMe (and anyone else that's not sure):  here's the general guidelines on item size:

Small item:  spend 1-2 hours on it and/or less than $5 in materials

Medium item:  spend 2-4 hours on it and/or $5-10 in materials

Large item:  spend 4+ hours on it and/or $10+ in materials

Ofcourse, as crafters, we probably have lots of "stash" to work with so it wouldn't necessarily cost that much to do.  I normally measure my items in time.
