1  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Countertop? Color samples?? on: August 01, 2007 05:08:53 PM
I used to work for an architectural firm - and they always were throwing samples and such away - drove me crazy!! I have a very large box of color samples that I don't know what to do with. They've been sitting in a closet for 2 years now... I really don't want to junk them... they are hard, I believe they are originally used for countertops and such... all one color... some of them actually have the name of the color on the front - so that would need to covered up... my first thought is - key tags or something like that. They are about 2-4 inches long and about 2" wide..

Any ideas?Huh
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Figure 8 cast on?? on: July 24, 2007 09:29:58 AM
I've been trying to make the bonnet from HelloYarn... and I can do the Figure 8 cast on... but - it seems too loose. It's not to loose on the needles - but it looks too loose once I start knitting... so after I knit several rows the top of the bonnet has these tiny holes in it... It may not be a big deal - but I think once you put it on a head and it stretches out it might look funky... does anyone have any advice on what to do?

Thanks so much!
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Teach yourself Patterns- Visually??? on: July 15, 2007 08:30:45 PM
Has anyone used the book Teach yourself to make your own patterns-visually (not sure the title is correct)? They have a book called Teach yourself to knit visually also - and I saw the one where they show you how to change patterns or make your own... but I wasn't completely sold on the price... I would more than likely order it online for less... has anyone used this? Is it worth it?
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / EZ's Adult Tomten knitted by Brooklyn Tweed!!!! Wow! on: July 13, 2007 10:57:51 AM

Ok - he's a knitting guru... and I thought his simple Noro scarf sent me over the edge... but the Adult Tomten!! WOW!!!
http://brooklyntweed.blogspot.com/

I've looked at the pattern for kids and thought it simply adorable... but this - I wish I hadn't have looked. Now I will have to make another yarn purchase and get knitting... I may try to resist and put it at the TOP of my list and see if I can hurry through the WIP's I must finish... Is anyone going to do a KAL?Huh
5  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Ideas on what to do on my Razor Cami mistake? on: June 25, 2007 11:32:20 AM
Ok - I was knitting along on the Razor Cami - going along beautifully - and then I fell asleep and messed up on the stitch pattern... so now - I am wondering what's the easiest way to "frog" or knit back to fix it? I'm not very experienced with lace and so with the yo's and such I'm wondering if anyone has any tricks up their sleeve on how to do it? Or should I just rip it all out and start over... I'm a good 1/2 of the way through.

thanks!
6  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Secret knitting pals?? on: June 08, 2007 02:22:35 PM
Ok - how out of touch am I? I know that I have seen/heard that there are some "secret knitting pals" groups out there... and I would love to get involved in one. Has anyone done this? How has it worked out for you? Do people really come through and participate? And finally - which group is a good one to get involved in?

Thanks a million for your replies!!!
7  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Twisting sock yarn?? on: April 25, 2007 05:14:58 PM
What the heck am I doing??? I am knitting the Elephant socks - and for some reason my yarn is twisting! It's twisting so much it's getting knotted. I take a few minutes every so often and try to "untwist" it but to no avail! Since I'm still in the -how ironic - twisted rib section - I don't know if it's something I'm doing there... this is only my second pair of socks... also the yarn is Tofutsi's so don't know if it's that - or maybe, just maybe I'm a little wacked out?

Any ideas - it's making me nuts!
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Chart for Clapotis?? on: April 17, 2007 12:47:21 PM
Ok... I really want to do another Clapotis (after the Clapotis disaster of 2006!!) and would like to use the charts they have out... BUT - the only charts I know of are on the Yahoo Clapotis group - and the group is closed to new members. Does anyone have a chart they could email me? or let me know where to get one? I know I could do without - or make my own - but it would be much quicker to get one... (you know how we knitters are - we want to get going NOW!!)

thanks a million to anyone who can help!!
9  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Looking for patterns similar to these... on: March 28, 2007 04:25:21 PM
Wow - I just love the knitting this woman does!! She's got some really cool ideas!! I love her use of various yarns in one pattern... Wish she'd sell some of her patterns!!! Here's the link for her gallery - http://www.wonderwho.dk/Sider/galleri.html
10  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Prosperous plum tank on: March 15, 2007 07:23:26 PM
I have decided on the perfect tank for me to do for the spring/summer. I would love if some others would join for a KAL! It is really a great pattern - enough to keep you from being bored and a great look!

The Prosperous Plum Tank - a free pattern at http://knit.definitelymaybe.org/patterns/ProsperousPlumTank.pdf

I did post a question on the question board - what is negative ease... and here is a note on another site by someone who knit the tank and this is what she had to say - so keep it in mind if you do decide to knit it. Here is what she had to say -

Overall thoughts: This is a really beautiful pattern. The design was very well thought out, better than most knitty or magazine patterns, but the upsizing left something to be desired. My gauge was on and I followed the pattern, but the finished product came out 3 inches larger than the pattern specs. When I did the math, I realized that this is an error in the pattern. So, although the designer recommends 4 inches of negative ease, this may be because the finished product comes out so much larger than intended. Knitter beware!

So with that in mind - is anyone up for this tank??
