1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / Re: Pencilcase for Whoever on: February 16, 2011 04:26:38 AM
Hehe, I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. But everything is a work in progress with me. I like prototyping and remaking the same designs over and over again in search of perfection.

That's why I'm going to put up some notes / tips on making this on my blog, for the next time I make it, probably a few years later.

No, the words are really easy because I used some kind of linen, the kind they use for cross stitch and I simply sewed directly on it, without having to write first. I wanted to avoid the writing bit cos I wanted it to look really neat, and I did not have disappearing ink.

I'm really excited to share this.
It's a pencilcase that I made inspired by Beautiful South's Song for Whoever. The shape is based closely on a super old Muji pencilcase that I mangled.

The shape looks deceptively simple but it's really really difficult to make, I think I blew a brain fuse trying to figure it out.

Yes, I used a pattern from this book:

Two toys that I made a while back. It took me forever to photograph them.
But I'm happy with how they turned out.

6  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Getting corners to meet nicely on: December 09, 2008 01:14:52 AM
Hey! Thanks all for replying.
I myself have been tacking, almost hand-sewing the corners before I machine it. It works sometimes, but not all the time.
Hope this helps someone.
Cheers

I'm new to quilting / patchwork and I hope someone can help with this question.
When machine quilting, how do you get the corners to all meet at one point nicely instead of being slightly off etc?
I've been told that simply sewing with the pins on would solve the problems of misligned points. But it does not really help me all that much.

How do you guys get your points to meet? Or do you not really bother at all?

Thanks!

I'll be at the MAAD too. My stall is Baked Ideas.

Have any of the Maadsters paid for the rental for the next three weeks yet?

I have yet to do so. :-P

I'm from Singapore too. Does anyone know where I can get a button maker? I've tried art friend, but they're not too helpful. Creative Hands does not carry it either.
