21  my million-dollar idea: yer-face-here frames *pic obese!* in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by theantihipster on: February 03, 2008 07:38:47 PM
so my boyfriend and I have a little running joke that's kind of sad & motivating at the same time. He's a bartender & I'm a tattoo artist, but we hate working for other people so we're both on our "race to a million dollars", if he becomes a successful musician, or I a successful painter, then the other one doesn't have to work & we can do our own thing.

hoop dreams obviously, but it's nice to think about
I'd love to sell this kitschy little idea to knock-knock.biz or something, they're always a big hit at craft shows.

so here they are *DUN-DUN-DUN* Yer-Mug-Here photo frames!!

starring YOU as the virgin mary:

the voluptuous vamp in Man's Ruin:

a cute widdle bunny fufu (based on a great Tara McPherson print *my hero*):

here's some action pics at Indie Valentine:
she's a reproduction of original Sailor Jerry flash art

here's a happy customer buying her buddha!

I made a geisha that one of my fellow rollergirls bought before I could take a pic
(it's extra great cuz I was going to name the art "Shanghai Lily" after my team-mate, who ended up buying her! crazy...)
I'm getting better about this whole archiving deal...

more images to come:
koi fish based on this half-sleeve I've started on Mr Josh:

american gothic
circus freak posters
more geishas & japanese prints
more off my favorite rock posters
etc...

all of my frames are rescued from thrift stores & cleaned up/painted, I use as much upcycled (I love that word) materials as I can, waste not want not!
let me know what you think!!

23  Mary Huff of Guadalupe no.1 (oh my PIC HEAVY rock n roll heart) + jesus! p.2 in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by theantihipster on: January 25, 2008 04:40:26 PM
1. I love love LOVE the band Southern Culture on the Skids. Most people don't know who they are, and the people who like them are at least 15 years my senior.
So here they are:http://www.scots.com/home/default.asp

2. Mary huff, the bass player, is my hero.

3. religious, mainly Catholic, art is oh so weird & cool
I ADDED A PIC OF MY FAVE DIME STORE JESUS ON P.2

so I'm starting a series based on Mary Huff as the Virgin Mary. I'm addicted to painting rock stars, I try not to examine my motives to keep the subject pure  Grin
I'm really stuck on no. 2 but I figure I'll step away and give it some time.

here she is (I found the better pic!)!

here's an old Amelie portrait (she's not a rock star but she counts, too)

aaaand close-ups, I actually played this 45 til it fell apart, so when it finally bit the dust I used the stickers to Mickey by Tony Basil as accents (you know, oh mickey you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind Hey Mickey *clap clap clap*)

here's a painting I did YEARS ago when this whole thing started.
you guessed it! Hedwig & The Angry Inch

I finished this for the Rock-n-Roll Craft Show in December, it was really fun & I hope to paint more bags, the best part is giving new life to an old, ugly handbag

25  Tattooed Jewelry Box w/pics! in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by theantihipster on: January 19, 2008 05:59:01 PM
thar she blows, my new snake lady design on an otherwise old-n-ugly jewelry box (even though I'll admit I love that pukey green, mmmmm, pea soup...)

here's the side of the box

I got this box for 2.95 at a thrift store, worth it!

26  Fantastic Plastic!! retro resin & acrylic goodness NEW PICS! in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by theantihipster on: January 19, 2008 01:06:16 PM
I love big vintage resin rings. I drool over them, I dream about shopping and wake up wishing I owned the ones I purchased in my sleep.
so I think I've finally figured out how to do it, and I could probably keep every single one for myself (which I can't do, boo hoo  Cry )

I also made this wicked necklace from some found objects & shrinky-dink, an you tell I love big, gaudy stuff yet?

the ultimate irony: my mom has owned a jewelry store since I was a baby, and I never wanted anything to do with it, now I'm making jewelry til the wee hours in the morning after I get home from work. Go figure, right?

p.s. I think I need to buy a new camera, for reals.

28  meet Gary the Hippo! *pics!* in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by theantihipster on: January 19, 2008 12:09:09 PM
you'll have to ask my boyfriend why he's called Gary, but I made one for my nephew for Christmas and now I'm hooked (pardon the pun) on crocheting hippos

I can't get over the instant gratification of crocheting!
I shortened his snout & made some other tweaks to her original, but the body in her blog is much rounder than mine, which is more tube-y or bean-y, how does she get so much roundness from her pattern?
here's her blog: http://bittersweetblog.wordpress.com/2007/03/12/hungry-hungry-hippo/

29  Tattooed Wedges: ugly to awesome! in Shoes: Completed Projects by theantihipster on: December 07, 2007 10:13:27 PM
I wish I had a before picture to enter in this month's craft challenge!
these used to be some very ugly, uncomfortable denim platforms that pinched my toes, but I love how tall they were so I kept them.
Finally one day I decided to spruce them up & here's the result, et voila!

I cut the straps to give my toes a little more room & re-sewed them with some tough thread, the lettering is Latin for "She Flies On Her Own Wings"
Enjoy!

30  Re: motif blanket in Crochet: Completed Projects by theantihipster on: June 22, 2007 10:41:02 AM
effin rad!

I just learned to crochet and I've wanted to make a blanket like a Rom Isom painting. He used to teach at the same school I did and his paintings were ALL OVER the place. He has this crazy cellular style that I think would look really cool in yarn
here is one of his paintings:
