1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / what's your favorite cheap yarn? on: July 29, 2006 05:13:48 PM
So, what yarn do you like that is say around $5 or less, holds up well (ie: doesn't pill or make the FO look like a cheap piece of crap!), and doesn't look cheap (but it is!).  I'm asking just in general, not for a specific project.  Also, do you prefer your lys or an online shop and which online shop?  I've looked at webs and it seems cool but i haven't ordered before.

I knit under the hoodie in lion brand wool ease, and it was ok, it seems to hold up well, but i was hoping for something a little more luxurious.  Wool ease might be better for wrist warmers, pillows, hats, etc.   As for using something "nicer", I would love to, I just don't feel good about spending lots of money to make a sweater when i could buy one that is nicer for a lot cheaper!

So, fav. cheap yarns?

2  Oregon / Oregon: Northwest / cool (and cheap) fabric stores in Portland on: May 18, 2006 03:06:12 PM
I just moved to Portland 2 weeks ago and I LOVE it so far!  For my new place, I want to make some curtains/pillows etc and maybe even venture into sewing clothing soon.  Any recommendations on cheap and cool fabric stores?  I went to The Whole 9 Yards which had beautiful and lovely fabric but was a bit too pricey and I don't really need fabric that is that high quality right now (since I am a beginner, I am bound to ruin a few things!).  Also, I know I could just look around in Goodwill etc, but I was looking for a place where I could get a bit more selection on the prints etc.

PS.  I also knit.  Any recommended favorite yarn stores?
