33  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / I am confused by these instructions for turning chains...HELP! on: March 05, 2007 03:49:15 PM
I am at the very beginning of a sweater pattern and already I am confused. I know all about turning chains and that kind of stuff...its just that sometimes patterns describe things in a confusing way Huh

its the second and third row I have problems with......

here are the instructions:

ch 47

row 1: work 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each of next 21 ch, (hdc, ch2, hdc) in center ch, 1 hdc in each of rem 22 ch, turn.

row 2:Ch 2 (does not count as 1 hdc), work 1 hdc in each hdc to center ch-2 space, (1hdc, ch2, 1hdc) in ch2 space, skip the next hdc, 1 hdc in each hdc to end, turn.

row 3:Ch2(on this and every row), work 1 hdc in each hdc to center hdc space, (hdc, ch2, hdc) in ch2 space, skip the next hdc, 1 hdc in each hdc to end, turn

then you need to repeat row three 7 more times and end up with 27 hdc each side of the ch-2 space....the math is just not adding up in my head.......help me

as I understand it aren't row 2 and three the same....the parts in bold are the parts I do not understand please explain this.

35  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / old knit1 sweater pattern....did anyone make this? on: March 05, 2007 11:47:04 AM
hi there

I just bought some old back issues of knit1 magazine

and I'm already preparing to make this sweater

I'm going to use butterfly cotton and alter it to make it full length

I'm just wondering if anyone has made this pattern before and if they could tell me how the sizing worked out.

I've made things from that magazine in size small that were too big for me and I've made things in size xs that were too small

the measurements on the pattern says

Bust:
xs-32
s- 34

my natural bust size is 35....accounting for the stretchiness of crocheted material and looking at the picture....what do you guys think I should do?

37  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / I need advice about edging!!!!!!!!!!! for christmas on: December 04, 2006 02:54:10 PM
HI THERE!

I am making this scarf/hood for my mom for christmas
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=130662.0

only now that I'm done the length of the hood I realised that it isn't wide enough....I need to add some edging around the hood so that it covers her ears enough.

I don't want the edging to be lacy or frilly

I was thinking that I would just add some crochet ribbing only I'm new at crochet and I don't know how to do that

and suggestions on how to add to the hood rim?

I'm part of a group of girls that get together and do crafts every once in a while. I suggested that I bring a knitting project for eveyone in the next meeting. Only now I can't really think of anything that can be completed in one night....any suggestions
