11  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / Anybody know of a feathered back piece tute? on: May 29, 2013 05:28:11 PM
Anybody know of anywhere to find tutorials on making feathered back pieces like these.
I have a basic idea of how to do them. But do they put buckram or something on the back part to make it stiff or do they make a wire frame or what?
Here is a pic of the back of what I'm talking about http://www.neckelmanns.com/imagelib/sitebuilder/misc/show_image.html?linkedwidth=actual&linkpath=http://www.neckelmanns.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/img_7129.jpg&target=_self

Yea he's pretty large.I tend to work in a kind of small scale so it was fun to do something large.I forgot how easy it is to paint something when it's large.

Wow!!!

I can not believe how big he is!!!

I had him almost totally made months back, but I was in the process of moving so I FINALLY finished him up and took a few shots of him. He's a big doll.
"Collarbone" Mummy Doll by Ugly Shyla/Ugly Art Dolls.
TITLE: Collarbone
MEDIUM: Composition,vintage cotton,dirt,paint and ink.
COSTUME: Vintage strips of a white cotton sheet. His necklace pendant is the symbol KA which means soul, and his necklace also includes sculpted collar bones and real cow teeth.
SIZE: Around 36 inches. You can see the size/scale of the doll in the last photo. He's around 3 feet tall.So it's a very large doll.
Doll is posable and jointed so he can sit on stand with the aid of a doll stand.Or you can even hang him on the wall.

You could always find a dress pattern that is flattering to you,and make it in some cheap light weight fabric and do patchworking and the quilting ect on top of that.
