2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Best Wishes for the couple (ideas on how to make this work?) on: April 27, 2008 07:42:32 PM
Hi everyone!  Grin

I'm a crafty lady getting married in July 08 to my uber-geeky man, and we're pulling together some ideas on how to involve our wedding guests into the ceremony. Our wedding is very DIY and casual.. held outdoors in the middle of the woods. Think lots of trees, summer flowers, black cotton dresses and shirts, indie/geek rock music, all you can eat BBQ, cupcakes, and local Oregon brewed beer!

I read about an idea earlier this week, where a couple had asked their guests to write some best wishes for the couple of a small piece of paper. The notes were placed in little envelopes and then hung around the alter, surrounding the couple in best wishes as they said their vows to each other.

The best part? Each envelope was numbered from 1-20.. On their first anniversary the couple would open all envelopes marked #1, on their second anniversary they'd open the #2 envelopes and so on..

I LOVE this idea, and so does my fianc. I would really like to put this project together myself, instead of purchasing pre-made, but I'm having trouble getting started..

So I come to you my beloved craftster mavens, seeking your wisdom! Are there simple envelope tutorials out there that I am not finding? Can you think of a creative way to pull off making this an easy and meaningful activity for our guests?

I'm thinking hanging the envelopes on each of the chairs, but then how to manage writing implements? Perhaps they could all be set at a table near the entrance, but then how do we avoid crowding or missing people? Huh

I'm also trying to write up something sweet as an introduction to attach to the envelopes, or to display near the table, explaining the envelopes and how we will be using them.

What do you think? Can I pull this off??

Much love!

So I've been sitting here for days trying to figure out what the heck is wrong with my laptop.. My images wouldn't download from my memory card no matter what I did! WHY?!? *sob!*

And then tonight I was giving it another try and DOH!  Undecided I couldn't download the pictures from my card, because I had already downloaded them days ago!! ..they were sitting in my image folder waiting all nice and patient. Yeeps! I need the award for most chocolate-induced braindeadness, yes?

SOO, onto the pictures!! I received from Loops (all the way from the UK to the USA) on Saturday.. and boy oh boy folks.. be nice here, it's her first time swapping and we don't want to scare her away.. Cause she is a rocking swapper! My chocolates.. Ooooh, let me share them with you.

So here's the package, quite unassuming from the outside you might say..

But then EEEEEEP, open it up and chocolate bursts out everywhere! Along with some mysterious packages.. Oooh.

Package number 1! Filled with even more goodies.. and seriously, the best crafty I have ever received in a swap. This bag is awesome, more pictures below, but OMG, Loops is a master crafter.

OMG, even more chocolate inside!! (you understand now why my brain hasn't been working so well this week now, yes?)

Mystery packages number 2 & 3 are sweet! A beautiful hand-bound notebook and a CHOCOLATE ZOMBIE MAN! AHHHHH!

Chunk is THE coolest. Check out the hand-stitched details! He is so my favorite little plaything at work! All of my coworkers come out to check out my new toys (yes i have a lot of toys at work Cheesy) and all agree Chunk has the best personality. He's actually quite cheeky when you get to know him.

So check out this bag! Seriously folks, we're talking swap-orgasm here, this bag is AWEsome. Not only does it have a magnetic closure(!!), zippered pocketses, and fabric to die for...

LOOK AT THESE DETAILS! Okay, am I the only crafty geek in here who drools over stiching? I hope not, cause I've totally taken some stitch-porn pictures for your enjoyment. Loops is a fabulous crafter, and this is a totally excellent bag! I am just in love and so darn lucky to have had her as a partner. (neat fact: the bag is in my wedding colors! and we're having cupcakes at the reception! a wedding notepad and an official wedding bag, all in the nick of time! you'd think she had ESP or something..)

Loops, I sincerely hope you never experience swap anxiety again, cause you are a star! I am so overjoyed with our swap, and I loved having you as a partner! Thank you for being patient with my pre-wedding spazzness!! And just well, thank you for being YOU!

And thank you to our swap organizers, you guys are superstars! BEST SWAP EVER.

Me again!  Met my target and now 2 items are 100% complete and the final is like 98% complete, just drying before I can do the last bit to it Cheesy  I thiiink I shall post Weds hopefully, yey.  Didn't get to practice any of that song tho, oh well!

WOOHOO! So excited! I'm posting on Wednesday as well.. may need to find another box though.. My boy says I went a little berserk on the chocolate shopping today and I think my original box is now too small! Have to use a box as I'm sending something fragile, and it would not make it all the way to the UK in a mailing envelope Sad

I'm 98% done on my Med item, and 50/50% on my small/med's. Gonna spend some quality crafting time tonight and I should have them more than done by this evening. Had to pick up something from the store today to finish one of the small/med's.

That is why I'm not buying chocolate until the last minute.  Grin

MEEEE TOOOO. Though I'm also really glad I held off on the majority of my chocolate shopping because I just found a fabulous local shop that specializes in all kinds of yummy Hot Chocolate.. as well as all that regular chocolate candy stuff Cheesy I'm going to have too much fun there this weekend.

I cannot believe some people are ready to ship this week!! WHAT?!

I've almost completed my chocolate shopping (I say almost, because there is always room for more chocolate and there are two whole weeks to go!) and I've just started my crafting.. I got a little stumped on what to make, but now I've got my ideas all sketched out, materials ready, and I'm off!

Can't wait to see everyone's contributions to the gallery!
