1  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Stitch And BOTCH / Re: Crafty But Stupid: YOUR CRAFT RELATED INJURIES HERE! on: May 17, 2014 05:28:49 AM
I spent a good portion of this past winter knitting a beaded stole and using a super tiny crochet hook to put the beads on the yarn. We adopted a kitten in November and much of my winter was taking him off of places that are not his to play on, like my crafty spot (my chair and its surroundings). Well, I was watching the ice dancing in the Olympics and kitty was getting nosy so I swatted him off and wound up, somehow, with the crochet hook going through my finger, just grazing my knuckle. I freaked a bit and asked my son to call my MIL for a ride to the emergency room - the hook made it unable to pull back out. I spent a couple of hours being a freak at the hospital with a hook in my finger. Everyone came to see! I finished my stole, though (I told the nurse that I had to have the hook back), and it's lovely. My finger still hurts but is getting better.
My son said that when he saw me crying he thought it was because of the ice dancing!

I forgot to show some of what I've done this month.
It's four ounces of merino that I don't remember buying. Right now I'm beading tufts of fiber to try spinning a beaded single. I hope it works out - it's sure taking enough prep time.

Apparently I still can't add pictures.

Am I too late to join? I have some braids of roving that have been patiently waiting in the stash for some attention and I just got three pounds of wool from an artfire seller who is awesome. My fiber stash is great but it needs some love!

Everything's so pretty! I've been busy this week putting seed beads on some fiber tufts to try spinning some beaded yarn so I have nothing to share. If the prepwork ever gets done I'll show off the beaded yarn. I have a videopodcast (Family Fiber) where I showed the beads - they're multicolored and cheerful and going on a similarly dyed merino-bamboo braid.
Can anyone suggest a link to a carding tutorial? I have some cards and no idea whatsoever how to use them. There's a bag of llama in my stash waiting for me to learn, though.
I'm getting my wheel out now. Everyone's lovely skeins put me in the mood!

Here are a few of my finished yarns for this month. The black and red is a merino and silk blend that feels very smooth. I got just under 600 yards of worsted weight. The blue is from a batt of all sorts of stuff. It's about sport weight - I forget the yardage on it. The pink is superwash merino. It's my first try at a three-ply and is very bulky and squishy. I only got about 200 yards but it will be a bold accessory of some sort.
I love Fiber Fridays. I get so distractd at looking that I forget to post!

That looks so nice. Are you going to leave it the natural white or dye it when you're done?

Oh my gosh! I love your hats and have the strongest desire for a felt fedora. I'll have to keep my eyes open for a plastic hat to use as a mold like you did. Thank you so much for the inspiration!
