11  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: AlterKnits Lace-Up Wrap on: August 22, 2006 05:46:08 AM

Wow ! How long did that take ?  I love the projects in that book but haven't actually made any of them yet. It is inspiring though.  I only wish Knitpicks would ship to the UK.

I am almost ashamed to say that it took about five months only because it got to be so tedious and boring. On the whole, it was a quick knit, but I get bored easily and it was coming to the end of my term teaching. The last two feet I knit in about a day and a half because I told my husband I refused to move from the couch until it was finished. The pattern, as complicated as it looks, was easy to memorize (took two repeats to have it sink in).

Sorry KnitPicks doesn't ship to the UK. Is there anyone in the states that you know whom would ship an order to you?

I'm putting Sizzle to bed. Officially, she is done; unofficially, I still have to add the inches to make it long enough for me to be comfortable in it. I will probably get around to that near Christmas.

And with the hat at the top, you really can't see the seed stitch around the neckline.

I only have the wrap portion of this completed, not the scarf, but I am pleased as punch with the results. I wasn't going to finish the scarf, but upon further examination of the book's picture, the model is wearing the wrap with the scarf attached. The yarn, Andean Silk from Knit Picks, was a dream to knit with.

I really like The Knitter's Handy Book of Sweater Patterns because of all the different variations that you have. It is relatively easy to use in the scheme of things.

Okay, the seed stitch is done and Sizzle is over. I will take pictures on the cruise and post them when I get back. I wound up binding off using a size nine because I was paranoid that the armholes would be too tight. The good news is that with the seed stitch, I can wear my normal bra and not the "Here, you look like you need a place to rest your drink" variety. I almost wish that I would have added an additional three to the three that I put in. I think once I get back from the cruise, I might pick up around the bottom and add three (or four) more inches of seed stitch.

I'm not sure what to make of this. On one hand, I am a grown-up who is wearing this with either her husband or girlfriends on a cruise. On the other hand, I am a teacher. I still am not happy with the length but understand better what a very low neckline means.

I'm ready to do the split at the neck and I was wondering about the decrease. Would a K2tog and ssk combo work (provided I have them right) or does it matter since there will be a round of seed stitch?

Skillj, that looks awesome! How was the denim silk to knit with? I posted pictures of my progress on my blog with my sister, Two Black Sheep. I think the reason that I like to knit items with some stitch pattern or more shaping is because of the row after row of boring stockinette (which is where I am at right now). The anniversary came and went, but we aren't going to dinner until next weekend so I have time.

I have to look for my digi cam . . . I think I left it at my sister's house, or it could be in my bag. I have the back done and the decreases done on the front. I think that I finished one of the increases before I packed it in last night. It is almost too hot to knit here, but I have to make some headway on it soon. I'll post pics tomorrow (if I can't find, I will steal my daughter's).

What kind of yarn did you use, briteros? I was trying to decide if a verigated would look good, but I decided against it (used Elann's Esprit in a dark teal). I think I am a little burnt out on this project, but I have to be done in about three days, one of which will be spent in a car.
