KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Straight or circular?

Circulars are awesome! I am actually trying to find a use for all the straights that I invested in before I was hooked on circulars. If you can stand dropping $49.95, the Denise interchangables are awesome; my sister also likes the Knit Picks Options, but I have never used them.

I got so bored making mine that I put it away without making note of where I left off . . . which was not smart. Finally, I gave myself a deadline (a friend's birthday) to finish the damn thing off and gave it to her as a gift. That being said, I am picking out the yarn for my second one. Sometimes the mindlessness is nice - provided I write down where I leave off.

KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: Anyone for Knitty's "Eiffel"?

I knit up a swatch last night, dutifully washed it, blocked it . . . and came up with 22 stitches and 20 rows! What the hell . . . I am usually off a bit not like this. So, I went up to the 7s and tried again. This time if am putting the sucker in the washer with the towels and see how it holds up.
As a total aside, A. C. Moore had their Peru Luxury line clearanced to 2.97 a ball for merino/alpaca/silk blend so . . . I buckled and bought 18 balls. To do what with, I am not quite sure, but I like that gauge swatch much better.

Oh, damn! Everyone else is done with theirs! I cast on 120 of Kraemer's Summit Hill (it's a merino superwash) in ruby for my daughter, Veronica. I really hope that it is the right size because I don't think I can get another "cheap'n dirty" item done for her and her twin sister in time for Christmas.

I'm making either the largest or the second largest size as my boobs are rather large (not always that nice to have around). I bought the yarn specified as I have wanted to use hemp yarn in the past and I liked the deep brown color. Perhaps it will fool me into thinking that I am eating chocolate in the New Year. I think I will just swatch the ribbing . . . the lace should stretch.

Count me in. I haven't joined a KAL in a while (Sizzle was the last one). I bought the yarn yesterday, after much email discussion with Lola, and am ready to do a gague swatch when it gets here . . . Christmas be damned.

KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: How do you find time/make time to knit?

I try to take a small project with me everywhere so that I can knit whenever there is down time, but specifically I knit when: my cheerleaders are stretching and doing jumps in a line, at football games, when I am reading, and when I am watching TV or at the movies. I realized that I needed to learn how to knit without looking at the stitches and it has made all the difference to me. I did try to knit in the dentist's chair this past Monday and it didn't work . . . plus my dentist, who is a good friend, enquired if I "had a bun in the oven" (his words, not mine) and I told him he would find me in a bar if that were the case.

KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Yarn subs for Knit2Together's slippers
|
on: October 11, 2006 01:00:59 PM

I'll admit it, I am cheap . . . I want to make between four and eight pairs of slippers from Knit2Together and the yarn called for is a triple strand of Manos del Uraguay. Not that I don't believe in their product, but Manos is expensive. Any thoughts for reasonably priced substitutes?
