1  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Conan O'Brien box on: February 24, 2006 09:16:11 PM
During the holidays, my friends and I did a secret santa swap and the person I got is obsessed with Conan O'Brien, so I took a nifty cigar box and made it niftier by painting it black, tracing Conan and filling it in with white, and lining the box with felt and duct tape!  Then I sprayed some funky acrylic coating on it.  And of course, I filled it with 100 Grands bars and caramel creams.  She loved it!

2  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Art from Recyclables (w/ a cornucopia of imgs) on: February 24, 2006 09:04:12 PM
I entered a Recycling Art Contest that my ecology club at school held (even though I'm in it), and I worked so hard on it that I have to show it!  I used many different types of recyclable materials to create this landscape/tree/bird thing.  Well, here are the pics!

This is the unfinished part.  I cut out different colors of blue from newspaper advertisements and magazine clippings to make the grass.

The finished piece!  The tree trunk is made of cardboard with strips of packaging paper for the ridges, aluminum can cut-outs for the leaves, coke cans for the birds, a plastic ring thing that I got of a top of a smoothie bottle, and diet decaffeinated coke cans for the sun.  For the sun-- I cut out the bottom of the can and hot-glued a bunch of the can tongues to fill it in.

CLOSE-UPS:

the sun is my favorite part!

Sorry if the pictures are too humongous.
3  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Mathematical Stuffed chicken on: December 10, 2005 05:34:35 PM
This happens to be my math project for pre-calculus.   I sewed it all today and it turned out much better than I expected. Smiley  But this isn't your ordinary stuffed chicken.  It if filled with nineteen foam eggs with nineteen different functions written on them.  I know that it is biologically impossible for a chicken to have nineteen eggs at one time, but let's just say it's a chicken on fertility pills (functions can do wondrous things).

The hole closes with velcro

And that is the most amazing library of functions!
4  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Yes, a messenger bag, WITH TREE!!! on: November 01, 2005 08:03:51 PM
Hi peoples! So this is my first post and I finally became a member of Craftster yesterday.  This is the first thing I made entirely from scratch and I am soooo proud of it.  It's (another) messenger bag.  I made the pattern myself from an existing bag I have.

Here it is on a chair. I made a semi-matching coin purse too.

Close-up of the tree.  I cut the trunk out of felt and the leaves from scrap fabric and sewed them on.

And this is the back of my coin purse which doesn't REALLY match because mermaids don't usually live in trees. Cheesy I also drew the mermaid like 4 years ago, scanned it, printed it to iron-on transfer paper, and hot -glued it on because I was feeling lazy.
Thanks for looking!  Hope You like them!  Comments much appreciated!
