1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Domino Bleaching on: November 10, 2007 08:57:47 AM
So I tried to bleach some dominos.  I tried both black wood & the white plastic with big colorful numbers.  I put them a dozen or so in a container & poured enough bleach to submerge them all.

I left them over night, then pulled one out; no change in color & the white were still glossy.

So, I left them for about 9 more hours, then pulled one out; no change in color & the white were still glossy.

So, I left them over night again, then pulled one out; no change in color & the white were still glossy.

So, both types spent over 32 hours in regular Clorox with no change at all, what could I have been doing wrong?

Here's what we're looking at folks! Cheesy  <stolen from Round Two!> This is a quick (and hopefully painless) swap for all the knitters and crocheters out in the world! You can sign up to make 1-2 cloths to the same partner.  Please make all of your dishcloths out of cotton (if you'd prefer to use another material, please PM me first)--some good dishcloth/washcloth cottons include Peachs & Cream, Sugar & Cream, or an all cotton yarn at your local yarn store.  You must use some type of pattern for each cloth you make--there's a whole world of fun knitting & crochet patterns around--go crazy!

Here are some sites previously used in the last round & in the interest thread:
Knitting Pattern Central Dishcloths
Free Patterns on Smariek's Blog
Knitting Pattern Central Bath Items
Crochet Pattern Central Dishcloths
Crochet Pattern Central Stitch Dictionary
And Recently added to the mix, and sure to be popular....
(drumroll please!)
Lion/Aslan Washcloth!

When you have mailed PLEASE be sure to send me your Delivery Confirmation number. I will be noting communication in feedback- so please communicate with me if something arises and you will not be abe to mail out on time. This should be a quick swap and everyone should have plenty of time to get them in the mail on the mail out date I hope. Please post pictures in a timely manner so that everyone may admire all the cool designs I'm sure you'll all make!

You must also PM me when you have received from your partner (and a nice thank you note to your partner would also be wonderful).

***The signups are sort of long, only because I want to be able to get everyone their partners as soon as possible after the signup date.  Saturdays are the best for me to get this done, so I wanted to end signups on a Friday. If anyone things this gives us too long, please let me know and I'd be happy to adjust the times based on a democratic majority!   ***

6  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / I love making socks for kids! on: May 14, 2007 08:31:50 AM
They're so fast to make!!!   Grin

The solid on the top/left is too small, I made that pair about 6 months ago from Debbie Bliss silk/cashmere blend.  They're still silky soft, of course, so she still forces them on her feet.  I have only finished one of the striped socks that's on the bottom/right.  these are from a cotton/wool blend that's light and summery and knits up quickly, even at a somewhat fine gauge Smiley

7  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Mother's Day Pouch w/charm on: May 12, 2007 06:18:54 PM
I whipped up this little pouchy poo for my mom - I've made them for a while to sell, and she's always ooohing and aaaahhing over them...so it's high time she gets her own! Grin

the zipper pull is a pull that was store bought, and the charms changed out...it came with a really cheesy vinyl owl!  The exterior is a suede leather, and the interior is a buttery yellow dupioni silk, both are fabric samples.  Everything on this bag is repurposed...even the zipper is an old dress zipper!
8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Outgrown kid's coat?! Slightly Image Heavy on: May 10, 2007 10:44:13 PM
I couldn't bear to part with my kiddo's leopard print coat even after it was really really small...as in she couldn't get her arms in it anymore.  So...it sat in my stash...whispering to me "cut me baby...do it!"  I never had to guts to hurt her....but she wanted it.  Oh yes...she wanted it bad.   Cheesy  After I cut her, she whispered to me again...this time "tie me up honey...tie me to a tree!"  How could I say no?

Lined with heavy satin material donated to my stash, and the handles are a random thrift store find from about a year ago.

Am I the only one whose craft items tell me what they want to become? Wink

These wound up being slightly tight, as you can see by the stress my foot is putting on the short row heel.  I'll be making the second sock slightly bigger, but not much as they stretch out Smiley

10  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Crunchy Bean! on: May 08, 2007 09:19:54 AM
I was requested to make a custom bag, with very specific measurements, etc.  Here's what we came up with - isn't she cute?  100% hemp is fun to work with, slippery and smells a bit like silk....mmmm Smiley
