52  Happy Yellow Basket Purse :) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by meanbean on: January 12, 2006 11:48:22 PM
This is my first attempt at trim...so why on EARTH would I try, say, flat ribbon trim?

Because that's too damned easy!!  Okay okay, so this actually really intimidated me, but my bag just wasn't complete without it.  So, Off I went, and it went perfect!  I'm not going to post more pics, because I'm going to be selling this design, but this was the first run, and I'm SO happy!!!  I'm going to change the handle a bit, and maybe, if I can get the hang of them, add a pocket, but it's so small, it's nice to only have one place to lose things in Smiley

Here we go:

Well, whatcha think? Smiley

53  Re: Help with Swatch Book in Discussion and Questions by meanbean on: January 04, 2006 09:43:59 PM
In case anyone else needs to do something like this, here's what I did - I got index cards and (surprise!) and index card binder at Target.  Didn't know such a being existed, I like it, but it doesn't hold many swatches.  We'll see if I stick with this....

Swatch Guts - Info for me, swatch for customer

This is the info I need right now

And this swatch is on the other side of above info

DH suggested scanning the swatches and making a booklet, and we might go with that (we own a print shop...comes in handy for such craftyness!) as I'm not even halfway through my fabric.

54  3 New Purses! (Very Img Heavy!) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by meanbean on: January 03, 2006 09:27:10 AM
So (sew?) this weekend I had some free time, and an order to fill (YAY!), so here's what came of the two -

Kid's Simple Handbag #1 (for a 7 year old)

Kid's Simple Handbag #2 (for a 9 year odl)

Small Purse with Flap (just for me....for now! Smiley)

Comments, suggestions and constructive criticisms are all welcome! Smiley  On the kid's purses, the only thing that makes them for kids is the strap length.  I made it long enough to sling across thier chest, but on an adult it's too short to do that.  An adult could easily just use it as a shoulder bag, but since I specifically made these for kids, that's the name I decided to use for now Smiley

My small purse with flap turned out so much better than I had thought, but the strap isn't quite long enough, as this is one I wanted to sling across my chest.  It hits a little high, but because it's so small, it's light enough that it's not really an issue.  I'm very proud of the zipper, the only issue I had was that I sewed one side of the lining WAY too close, and now, the position that you see in the zipper picture, is where the zipper will stay.  The fabric is caught pretty well in there, and as it's a fairly lightweight cotton, I'm not about to just yank it out.  Any tips on getting it out would be welcomed!!   Huh

Thanks Smiley

55  Stripey Purse/First Order **Pics Should work now!** in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by meanbean on: December 31, 2005 10:33:55 AM
I am SO happy!

I designed and made a purse last night, and I'm really proud of the way it turned out.  (I'll post pics later today)  I wasn't sure I could part with it, because it's my favorite so far.  So, I carried it to work with me, and I went over to visit a male friend of mine whose opinion is always honest.  He didn't say anything for a minute, and handed it back to me.  So here's where I think "uh oh..." Then he says "How much?"  I told him I wasn't sure, as I hadn't figured it out last night, I went right to bed.  "Come on, gimme a ball park" So, okay, "$20"  He turns around, and I'm thinking "here it comes"  that I'm charging too much for my crappy handiwork, etc.  He pulls out 2 $20's and orders two for his granddaughters!  On my way (skipping, of course) back to my desk, I stopped and excitedly told two of my other friends.  They were happy, then told me they want to see available fabrics so they can place thier orders!

ACK!  I'm making a sample catalog this weekend so that I can catch those orders! Smiley

Ok, I'll post pics tonight...I'm just so proud, I could burst!!!!

Okay, so now here's the pics.  I know most probably aren't interested, but I'm damned proud   Grin
