Wow! This is great stuff for your first time.

But don't email me and say it's not to late, coz trust me, it's to late. I will however keep an eye on you guys and what you come up with.
Happy swapping  Kiwi craftsters
14  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: Crazy Quilt Stocking on: January 12, 2006 10:39:16 PM
Leigh, I think your stocking is lovely.  Smiley
Your embroidery is well done and the stitch size is consistent. I like the folded flower on the yellow, it tones down that piece of fabbie. And nice placement of the stamp motif 'thru' several blocks.
The only thing I would say is, don't be afraid to embroider and embellish, but that can be a personal preference. Some CQ will focus on fabric, some on embellishment, you have to find the place where you are happy.

A really nice job, and a wonderful, thoughtful gift for you mum.

Keep on stitching 'Crazy' Girl...you cant go wrong!!
15  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: Crazy Quilt WIP-finished blocks *LOTS* of embroidery!! on: January 04, 2006 06:45:17 PM
Dharmadog, I can't really give you any tips I'm afraid. The silk was hand painted by a friends mother and given to me. The marbled ones I did in a workshop, so everything was supplied. They have been sitting around for about 15 years waiting for a project! The plain blues were done at another workshop by my mum. They are called 'graduated dye'. Maybe if you check out your local craft store or quilting store, or community 'houses' and see if they are running any courses. I find it much easier to obtain stash in this way. I can't afford to outlay for supplies for a hobby that I might lose interest in next week!!
Sorry, I'm completely useless aren't I?

(ps a few commercial fabbies have snuck in here and there  Wink )

If you check out the sidebar in my blog, go and have a look at Sonji Says. She  "paints"  all her fabric.
