1  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Discussion and Questions / Re: pilly felt on: October 28, 2005 07:26:47 PM
Thanks for the compliments on the hats.
lynnidings I went to your website too and it is lovely, so clean and clear and I WISH I had cows across the road like you do. And now I feel all inspired to felt MORE.
Do any of you have fav. places to get wool?
BTW, how do I post a picture on here (not so tech savvy), and how would I make those unpilly boots then?
you guys are GREAT!
thanks

Gosh! I feel in such good company.
You're right,  I did use high quality merino (I have no idea what micron, I buy it from the New Zealander at the yarn store), and it makes nice soft hats.
I felt in the same way you outlined..I use a washboard for fulling and then rubbed them hard on her feet , and they did come up nice and substantial, but had already pilled before she began wearing them.
Did the merino not love all the shocking? That certainly makes sense.
My hats are at www. weeblossoms.com but brace yourselves, they're cute.
I'll post a pic. of the boots asap and for your combined wisdom etc
I thank you muchly.

I appreciate ANY feedback (and I love needlefelting too)
I have felted through two pounds of that ball of wool, the boots used the last of it, and all the hats I did came up fine.
My suspicion is beginning to be over-fulling....but is there such a thing I wonder?
Post a picture of my work? Oh, Ok....if you insist....

Hi,
I'm so excited to be amongst other felters...usually it's just me, the wool, and the hot soapy water..
So with all the combined experience here, maybe someone can help me figure out why the boots I felted for my daughter last week pilled right away, and look truly ghastly, when they were supposed to be adorable?
I did them seamless with a fabric pattern, fulled them (a lot) on her feet, then dyed them. Four layers of Merino top roving.
I'm really bummed, and so are the other kids because I won't make them any til I find out why.
Any ideas?

thanks muchly.
