We just had a really cold rainy long weekend. My husband had a man cold so we spent most of it inside. I decided to work on some new embroidery ideas:

5  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / AUSTRALIA / FREE Craftea Chat workshops in Melbourne August-September on: July 13, 2008 11:37:28 PM
I'm organising a  8 week series of 'craftea chats'  for women who have experienced mental illness and are based in Melbourne.

We'll have different materials and teachers each week and you can bring along your current project or learn a new skill such as knitting, sewing or cross stitch. All materials are provided and each session is free. Depression, anxiety and the like can be lonely and isolation and the workshops are a great chance to meet other women and engage in some crafty fun while enjoying tea and bickies.

Weekly from August 6th
6.15-8.15pm
Ross House, 247 Flinders Lane, Melbourne

The workshops are funded through a grant by The City of Melbourne and auspicing of the Victorian Mental Illness Awareness Council

Interested? Check out the details below and email ms.cate@gmail.com to book your place (spaces are limited).

6  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Craft Group for women with depression? on: June 03, 2008 11:49:25 PM
hi there, I have recently been awarded a grant to run a craft group for women with mental health issues. The idea is a weekly meet up over 8 weeks to enjoy crafting, tea and an informal chat with the hope that the group will:(insert jargon)

facilitate and enhance womens social connectedness and opportunity for developing friendships and mutual support through creative activity.

To foster a feeling of purpose and achievement in women with mental health conditions.

So I have the money but to be honest i am really struggling with what to call the group! I don't what women to feel that they have to have a diagnosis of a particular psychological/psychiatric illness. It's also not meant as a 'therapy' group, more for creativity and a chance to meet others in a non-stigmatising space....

Any ideas vey much appreciated  Smiley
thanks Cate
7  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Pricing for wholesale vs consignment vs my online shop on: June 02, 2008 05:08:25 PM
I am looking at extending my wares and wondering how the prices should differ for wholesale/consignment and online sales?

For example, I know shops that sell my wares sell them for more than my online shop. For example, I might sell a pair of gloves for $12 (plus postage). they might sell them for $16 plus.

What should the difference be between consignment and wholesale? Any feedback appreciated!
8  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / They call me mellow yellow.... on: May 18, 2008 10:56:34 PM
As my recent 'No spend craft month" I made the following outfit:

A Line skirt made out of a curtain. I'm a far from brilliant sewer and I lost the zipper foot for my machine so I had to handstitch the zipper. I might take it in at the waist a couple of centimetres so it sits a bit flatter at the front.

Can you see the rounded pocket? There's one on each side, but I'm not much good at photography!

I also recreated this t shirt with a cute pic I got years ago as part of a Peter Rabbit bath book. Having owned bunnies (well been owned by bunnies to be precise!) I am fond of all things related to Peter Rabbit!

And here's a close up of the Robin (geez I really should've ironed it):

9  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / AUSTRALIA / Craftsters and Zinesters wanted for melbourne warehouse party! on: February 24, 2008 08:01:39 PM
Hola,

I am writing to you to see if you are interested in holding a stall at the next warehouse party in Stafford St, Collingwood.

Saturday 15th March from 3pm

$5 gets you a stall/space.:

artists, badgemakers, writers, kitschy retro..whatever you like!

There will be bands playing, there will be a market, there will be mask making and mural painting, there will be DJs, there will hopefully not be a noise pollution fine. But otherwise it will be as damn fun as the last ones, and if you came to those, you know what to expect.

(obligatory facebook link)

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=33496265536

We'll also hire some tables and try for plenty of light-I'll make sure personally of that.

Bands so far confirmed:

ouch my face
GAY
the females
drumheller
surf surf surf
smoking hot bitch

So...let me know what you think and feel free to spread the word so we can get lots of people there
cheers
Cate

10  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / crafty band merchandise?? on: December 12, 2007 02:08:25 PM
My bf has a big gig coming up and I'd like to help with some free merchandise they can give away. The band's logo is a monkey and anything with the name of the band/website is good...

So far I have:

fortune cookies with little message inside

badges

monkey brooches with a 'scarf' tied around the neck with the website/band name

stickers/vinyl decals

patches (with details screen printed)

key rings of monkey

notebooks

bag of banana lollies with a card in it

(we also thought about giving away bananas with a sticker on them, but i think people would throw away the sticker with the peel). Smiley

Any other ideas??
