I received the package from cheshyre a few days ago, but just now have time to post. She sent me this lovely purse (perfect for my current knitting project), two headbands which fit perfectly, and a surprise from my wist - the venn diagram necklace. WOW! I'm super impressed by the quality of all of it and will get good use out of it all. Thanks, cheshyre!
Stifflersmom and I did a personal swap which arrives just before Christmas, so I think we've both been distracted from posting. It was great! I sent her some knitted mittens. The first picture shows the color, the second shows the cabling:
And she sent me a great swap journal (just what I needed) with a bunch of other goodies (a gardening journal, a cute pendant, and some awesome anatomy stickers):
I also just pick things up as I run across them (thrift stores, bed, bath, and beyond, etc), but I've been making wedding presents recently and got some nice linen towels from embroiderthis.com and I was really pleased with them.
Ok, OK, I give in and I'm joining you all. It has been a looooooong time since I embroidered anything and I am very rusty, but I finally realized that embroidered towels are going to be the answer to all my wedding-present problems (Miss Manners tells me I have a year to get presents out the door . . . that means I have six months left for all those weddings this past summer. Ack.)
So, I was looking around and I saw the roller derby patterns and I thought, "OMG I HAVE TO MAKE THAT FOR MY BARISTA" who does roller derby.
I'm definitely glad I did a warm up project because there are a number of things I'd do better the second time around, but I'm very pleased with how it turned out:
i have not bought any yarn since starting this swap, though i may have finally got around to buying the embroidery supplies i need to finally get around to a bunch of wedding presents . . . but it takes up far less volume. i also bought some patterns, cuz i don't think those are actually stash!
i've finished my first item (half of a pair, so not really useful) and i was very disapointed by how little yarn it used up. i'm going to have to be in the next 15 rounds of this swap to get through everything i have . . .
i'm am on the last few inches of my last holiday gift, now. it appears i actually kept the holiday gifting sane this year, i'm sure i'll overcorrect in the other direction next year. so, very soon, i am officially onto stash-busting. yea!
I made this scarf-like-thing for my mom for the holidays. It is more of a thing to drape over her shoulders, as she now lives in a pretty warm place. It took two skeins of Lana Grossa Merino 2000, which I had in my stash. And now I have 1 skein left - what to do with it?
The lace pattern comes from "The Lacy Knitting of Mary Schiffman". This took me forever. It required too much attention for most of the times I knit, but not so much attention that it was particularly interesting after the third repeat. But I'm really happy with it. Behold:
