1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Sweat Shoppe Swap Gallery - Round 8 on: April 09, 2007 09:57:50 AM
I received all of my items a while ago - last week was a total bear, so I am just getting around to posting . . .

Let's see . . .
There is the perfectly sized swap journal from Mlsocci74 which has already helped me organize all my craftster PM's
The fabulous passport cover from foolily, which I am planning on using in six weeks!
The cute owl from SewingLori, which, despite being called a pincushion is currently being used by my (18 month old) son as a ball.
The adorable mini journal from PenGwend, which I'm planning to use to write haiku, but haven't actually started.
And the wonderful eye pillow from stacysews, though it is also getting more use as a ball/thing to throw off the bed because it makes a cool noise when it hits the floor.

Thank you all, everything is wonderful!

[the picture isn't showing up because my site is down. .. i hope to get that fixed soon!]

catpants did an amazing necklace reconstruction for me!  Here is the original - there isn't anything wrong with the necklace, but I had a nicer string of pearls and never wore this one, which was a gift:

We discussed what I was hoping for and she made me this amazing floating bead necklace - I even have a good excuse to wear it next week!

And then she surprised me with this reconstruction of the remaining beads, which I also absolutely love:

Thanks so much, catpants!

at the moment, i feel like i can only participate in swaps with time for pre-crafting.  but i certainly don't mind missing a round if other people want to do a different style of swap.
5  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Ongoing Wish Swap Round 20 on: March 19, 2007 06:54:18 AM
I claim fleu_delicious for some knitted fingerless gloves!

This is my second claim, one sent.

About me:
I am a 27-year-old, PhD student in Wisconsin (USA).  I've got a 16-month-old son, another baby on the way, two cats, and a super cute little old house.  I am allergic to oranges (technically, I am allergic to most citrus, but I can eat most everything in moderation except oranges).  I am vegetarian, so no leather or gelatin, please. (if something had to die for it, I don't want it)  Wool is OK, I go back and forth about silk (at the moment, I'm cheating and using silk fabric salvaged from old clothing).

Things I like (in no particular order): Monkeys (chimps), ants, robots, and crazy ocean creatures. Bayesian statistics.  Human anatomy.  Electron microscope images of stuff.  Evolution.  My son is named after Alan Turing.  Decision analysis.  Stars, space, rockets.  I like the creative commons and science commons.  Gardening.

In general, I prefer prints to solid colors - I've included a number of fabrics that I like on my wist, but these are just examples.

My List! (I hope it is long enough)

A conference bag.  A professional looking bag to use at conferences, so subdued fabrics.  My ideal bag would have a divider in the center with one side that can hold those obnoxiously large binders they hand out (like school binders, probably 1.5 inches thick).  The other side would have my knitting.  Oooh, and an internal pocket for the hotel key/pens.  Shorter handles, as I won't be carrying it on my shoulder.

A gym bag.  I cannot imagine being pregnant without swimming.  Big enough for a towel, swimsuit, shampoo, and a clean shirt.

A diaper bag.  We used to have two bags, then I lost one.  Help me with a new one before I lose the one I have left!  I'm not picky - anything from cute and kidish to sophisticated would be fine with me - as long as it is big enough for diaper supplies and some toys.

Clip-on earrings and/or necklace reconstruction from a freshwater pearl necklace I already own.  I recieved this necklace as a gift while living in China, so I am sentimentally attached to it.  I have, however, a nicer string of pearls, so I never wear the gift.  I would be thrilled if someone would use some of the pearls in a different necklace design and/or some clip on earrings.  I'd be happy to donate the left over pearls to that person.

Fun cloths for my son (size T3).  Fun t-shirts for the summer (stencil/embroidered/whatever).  Or if you really want to rock my world, a sailor shirt or a cute vest!

A book of knitting lace patterns or history of knitting type stuff.

One of those hanging things for circular knitting needles.

A wrap dress with short sleeves.  I would like some in printed fabrics, of course, but I'd also really like a black one.

A shirt for my partner, as he needs some craftster love, too.  And some shirts.  His primary interests include robots, helicopters (radio control), space/vastness of the universe, being vegetarian, and the first amendment.

A serving tray - This is a gift for a friend who just bought a condo with a dining room that is separate from the kitchen.  Painted or tiled would be awesome.  She is a chemist who likes to go to the goth club and to rennisance fairs.  She really likes fairies.

Also, I'm going to be needing small or medium sized summer maternity cloths if you have some that are looking for a home.  Homemade/stenciled/embroidered/otherwise altered are, of course, appreciated.

Thanks in advance to whoever picks me!  I love this swap!
6  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Personal/Private Swap Gallery - March 2007 on: March 15, 2007 07:02:47 PM
I did a personal swap with gavagai and she sent me this fantastic needle roll as well as some treats.  I love it.  The tabs at the top are so I can hang it on my wall, which will happen as soon as I get my new desk and rearrange my space.

Thanks, gavagai!

I got a really fantastic package from GatsyGirl a few days ago.  It would be a gigantic post to put in images of everything - I was certainly spoiled!

The package included a whole stack of fun notecards and some gorgeous vintage iron-on transfers.  I love all the flower-based patterns.  Just going through it I thought of far more projects that I want to do than I will ever get around to actually completing . . .

Here is one of my favorite examples along with everything else that was included (and some mixed seed packets, which look really fun!)

Thanks, GatsbyGirl!

WOW!  I love it!  Wisted!
9  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Sweat Shoppe Swap Round 8! closes March 14th on: March 06, 2007 06:23:28 PM
Oh, yea, I have time to join in again.  I am being a very Responsible Adult and only doing 5 items this time, though the selection looks amazing so far and it is *very* tempting to do 10.

In any case, I will be offering a handsewn purple pansy pin.  They are made from salvaged silk (old kimono and dresses).  They are about 3 inches across and great to be pinned on a little bag or on a spring hat.  Here is the picture of the 5 so far, the buttons are not sewn on, yet, as I'll let people choose which button they prefer.

I will try to match people up with their prefered pansy.  They are "numbered" clockwise:
     1
5        2
   4   3

I claim Samsara for some handknit socks.  This is my first claim.  I am in the US.

I'm just getting into embroidery - I'd love some vintage iron-on patterns.

One of those hanging things for circular knitting needles.

Notecards to include in packages - I'm nearly out!

Also, I'm going to be needing small or medium sized summer maternity cloths if you have some that are looking for a home.
