1  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Re: Altar for my hippie friend! on: December 18, 2009 10:59:21 AM
Awww, thanks for all the feedback!
In response to morglanc, this is the first thing I've ever really refinished. The sanding part was kind of hard because I had to do it by hand and had some really cheap dollar store sandpaper, but other than that, it was easy and fun!
2  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Altar for my hippie friend! on: August 19, 2009 08:08:27 PM
I was perusing the thrift stores (as I often do) and saw this diamond in the rough sitting there. I knew this would be perfect for one of my most dearly loved friends, so I picked it up, not knowing exactly what to do with it.
There it sat for months and months. I had the intention of making into an altar, but was short on ideas.

Then my friend's birthday rolled around, I had a breakup that same week, and voila! The need to keep my mind occupied and the pressure of a deadline created this!

I am very happy with how it turned out and my friend loved it. He is going on a spiritual sojourn for a year and said he was sad to leave the previous altar I had given him (again from a thrift store, but it was already nice without any alteration from me) because it was too big. Now he has something more portable!

Cute chair! The upholstery really complements it.

You should post pictures of your apartment in the interior decorating section.

Awesome! Those chairs were a great find. I love the shape.

Pssh. I have 4 piece of furniture in my garage right now that I saved from the trash. Some of them have been waiting more than 3 years for a "redo." So don't let your husband give you a hard time about it!

Any chance we could get a tutorial on the basketweave seat?

Awesome! Those chairs are great and the new fabric is MUCH better.
Have you tried looking under the chairs for a company stamp? They look like they might be worth some dough.

Awesome redo! I love the reddish brown rub finish you did on the drawers.

I have a floor pillow with that exact same fabric!

Awesome job by the way. I love upholstery and furniture before and afters. Do post your couch if you get it finished!

I just had to say... have you considered entering this into the apartment therapy color contest? I think it would do well.

Here's a link http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/fall-color-contest-2006.php
