21  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Earth and Planetary Science Swap (Sign-ups 4/17-5/8) on: May 01, 2006 09:12:25 AM

It is a funny short little paper on how ptarmigans are responsible for melting of the Laurentide Ice Sheet.  There is a really funny diagram of a little bird body and it's heat fluxes.

I sincerely hope the authors considered albedo effects of seasonal plumage.

I planning on signing up!  All of you Earth Science majors are scaring me!!  Smiley   I'm just a little ol' Bio and Chem major that did quarry work for a while!   I just have a love of rocks and geology!

Sign up Grasshopper - my major wasn't earth science either but always have loved that sort of stuff so here I am  Grin
We always have google when they get over our heads <G>

Don't worry goatgoddess and grasshopper!  I may be a geologist but most of the time, Trifarina's ramblings on marine snow make no sense to me whatsoever.  We're all dug in our little holes.  This will be a fun chance to come up with some geo-fun that everybody can appreciate!

Score!  I usually don't scare people until they meet me (and see the massive array of sledge hammers in the back of my truck...)

Hey, you count forams.  Obviously those sledge hammers aren't for research....

WOO HOO!  love the poem and I'm proud to say that I mailed my recipe cards this morning!  Also, viciouskitty and jnaos have bonus crafts coming in the mail (sorry so tardy present!) which will hopefully go out this afternoon.  Sorry, thanks, sorry you all.  I am relieved that the flakiness was a collective effort this time.  And since jnaos let us know what the next round will be, I guess I can go ahead and get started on my recipe cards so this won't happen again!

I feel a strange comradery with you all over this...

i craft at craftster and i'm proud
i used to feel alone in a crowd
but now you look around these days
and it seems there's a slacker CRAZE
i'm a slacker he's a slacker she's a slacker we're a slacker
wouldn't you like to be a slacker too?
i'm a slacker he's a slacker she's a slacker
if you crafted recipes you're a slacker too!
us slackers are an interesting breed
an original idea is what we need
ask any slacker and they'll say "only a slacker waits that way"
i'm a slacker he's a slacker she's a slacker we're a slacker wouldn't you like to be a slacker too?

i'm proud to finally say....my recipe cards are on their way!!!

I'd love to find a punny response to that, but It's Tuff.

gneiss one bambi.
26  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: Stained glass patch tutorial on: April 25, 2006 03:05:03 PM
Trifarina these are so awesome.  I love how the combination of varigated and solid color floss really gives it that multicolor look like stained glass. These are so beautiful.  and just in case nobody is aware, that sailboat design came from the Westsail logo, which just happens to be the boat I live on!  I love this technique.  I can't wait to try one myself, although mine will be small, but not too small, because I am a clod and just hope I don't screw it all up.  I love love love these.

I tried making these and got all befuddled  Huh  Maybe I will try again, and...hmmm...what about using Fun Fur?

I'm having probs too. I think maybe it should be 2 halves not 1 piece. I don't have any scrap yarn I want to use right now so I haven't tried it.

OK, I tried this pattern with help from an actual, published crochet pattern designer and I can officially confirm that this pattern DOES NOT WORK.

It's pun and double-entendre heaven!

Oh yes, I remember that one <<flashes back to field trips with a women's college>>

I already PM'd my partners but I wanted to let the rest of you know... I'm late too... just for moral support, you know.  Smiley
30  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: Knitty's nautie on: April 18, 2006 07:05:46 PM
I started coiling on about the sixth row, by holding the work into a coil as tightly as I could, then picking up a stitch from the coil and knitting it together with my next stitch.  The instructions say to do this every 4th row but as it got bigger I actually did it less frequently.  If you coil as you go, it will take less stuffing material I think.
