1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Discussion and Questions / Paper Beads: How to make? on: January 01, 2007 12:59:52 PM
anyone making those paper beads out of recycled magazine or catalog pages? they look fun to make!

i am looking for some general directions.  specifically, are people finding best results rolling around a straw and then leaving the straw inside (just cutting between the beads when dry)? are tiny drink straws used? also, what type of "shellac" is used to seal it?

thanks in advance for any info...

Just curious from anyone who has participated in a summer craftshow- are they successful? Do people buy?  It seems obvious that winter sales are successful due to holidays, but how bout summertime? Thanks~ E
4  CLOTHING / Sewing Pattern Reviews / Simplicity 4966, EASY bias skirt on: August 06, 2005 09:35:28 AM
Simplicity 4966 is a really easy skirt--- its cut on the bias so that makes it fit naturally, and so there are no darts! The only thing to be careful about is the zipper on the side.  I sewed the seams on the outside and serged them in pink/orange/lime, then topstitched them down.  I also added a sheer poly ribbon to the bottom.

I would just recommend that you use a fabric that's not too stiff-- I used a lightweight black denim, it kinda sticks out a little at the bottom (more obvious in the profile).

6  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Real Butterfly Wings and RESIN on: March 06, 2005 09:38:42 AM
I saw the coolest pin made out of one butterfly wing, that was apparently lightly coated with resin. Any ideas how to do this without ruining the delicate wing?? The only thing I could find online was this: http://www.emmacaton.com/ but this still looks too thick...

I'm wondering if it would work to first spray the wing with some acrylic clear spray-on sealer, then paint it with the resin. I've never worked with resin, and don't know if its even possible to "paint" it on!

Oh, this is from that same site as above, but really weird...

8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / ugly monster zip bag, grrr on: January 29, 2005 07:05:02 PM
I've decided I love the lined zip pouch. So much, that I made one out of fake fur, felt, and creepy plastic eyes.   I now have little bits of synthetic fur all over my house.

It is lined with dark blue denim.

I think it looks a little like my grumpy kitty...
9  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Embellished lined zipper pouch? on: January 24, 2005 06:51:30 PM
Would any body be interested in an embellished lined-zipper-pouch swap??  People could make and recieve two or three different ones. They are quick to make, a good size to experiment without necessarily a huge amount of time invested, and postage would be cheap...

( I just learned how to put in a zipper  Shocked How exciting! )
10  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Market string bag: Pattern? on: December 18, 2004 06:03:19 AM
Can you help?
I am looking for a pattern to make a string-bag, preferably knit. Its the kind of thing that people might bring to the farmers market or beach, its really stretchy.

 Here's a link to a similar bag:
http://www.louet.com/images/pouch.jpg

I've seen a couple of 70s-style patterns online that are crochet... but not exactly what I'm looking for.
Thank you!!
