Oh my goodness... what a huge amount of thought you put into this.  Hope he's a keeper!

This quilt reminds me of the mask exhibits at the Hockey Hall of Fame museum.  Very cool!

Padding would help for sure... but I had a bit of trouble with that LOL!  The denim I used is REALLY heavy, so I wasn't too worried.

Received a digital camera for my birthday, and since it didn't come with a case, I did what any self-respecting crafty-gal would do, and made one.

Below is the pattern, and pictures of the case.  Use the pattern to cut out one outer fabric (I used heavy denim), and one inner fabric (I reclaimed a little boy's hawaiian shirt).  The photos give you an idea of how to stitch it together.

I found it difficult to sew something this small... especially the top stitching around the opening and closure tab.  But I'm really happy with it.

It would be pretty funny to attach it to the top of a bulletin board.  If the bulletin board was the same width, but much longer... and painted white or blue like the lettering...

This shelf was designed to be attached to a wall... there's nothing to stop it from racking (shifting from side to side).

In the picture, it shows two crossed bars at the bottom.  Your shelves need a set which cross the entire back (so one bar would go from the top right corner to the botton left corner, and one bar would go from the top left corner to the bottom right corner).  That will help, but I don't know if it will make it sturdy enough for what you want to use it for.
