1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / ugly huge blue cardigan to pretty tie dyed cardigan! on: March 30, 2009 02:07:18 PM
from the thrift store.
my mom barely even let me bring it home, it was so ugly. Unfortunately, i forgot to take a pic before i sized it down.
i used red dye from this kit my friend got me and it turned a nice sort of purple on the blue cardigan

2  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / help with seams on sheer fabric plz.... on: December 30, 2008 12:39:39 PM
i have this costume project for the theatre districts competition for my school, and i'm making a sheer negligee/robe to go over the dress. I've "serged" the edges with a very short (though not narrow) zigzag, but i'm wondering if that will hold up sufficiently or if i need to do a different sort of seam. My biggest concern is durability, but i also don't want it the seams look ugly, seeing as it's sheer and going over something white  Smiley
Any thoughts, comments, help etc is DEEPLY appreciated...

oh, and in case you're wondering, the play is Blithe Spirit (set in 1930's) and the character is Elvira, the "spirit"

at the moment (one of the sleeves is pinned on):

3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / black wool coat w/ homemade swirly buttons! on: December 14, 2008 07:07:01 PM
so the story begins:
i signed up to go on our school's fine arts trip to chicago (BEST 4 DAYS OF MY LIFE) and i needed a warrrrrrrm coat. So i felted the wool, added an extra layer of fabric in between it and the *bright* purple lining, and needed buttons. I saw none that matched the color of the lining and were the size/style i wanted, so i thought, hey, why not make them myself? I found sculpey in silver and purple and swirled it together and TA DA! it turned out great. and warm.

And im not even sure if this belongs here, its not much of a recon... but anyway. sometime at the beginning of summer i found these merona shorts at target: they were terribly boring but somehow they seemed like they had nautical potential that i liked.

and i didnt post it till now bc ive been lazy and as of today ive been stuck inside for 3 days listening to the wind try to make trees come inside my house.

5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / districts shirt/buttondown hybrid on: April 23, 2008 03:49:51 PM
So i had this shirt from districts last year that was just a tad small for me and i remember seeing this idea in Generation T (not that i've actually bought it. I'm too cheap, i just look at it every time i go to barnes and noble.) and i just cut out the button/buttonhole tape from one of my dad's ratty old shirts. Voila!

From the back: regular black tshirt...

from the front:

any comments, questions, concerns? i haven't been on in a while..
