1  CANADA / Ontario / Re: Favorite Craft Stores in Toronto!!! on: January 21, 2010 06:21:37 PM
Mary Maxim in the RioCan Centre at Yonge and Eglinton is great. There's another larger location in Ontario somewhere, but this one is great, and the staff is super helpful and friendly.

The main Mary Maxim location you're speaking of is in my hometown--Paris, Ontario. Wink

When I lived in Toronto I enjoyed visiting the stores on Queen West between Spadina and Bathurst.

Any more funky thrift finds?

I have a copy of Generation T, and just bought a brand new T-shirt for about $4, just so I could cut 'er to bits...

I went digging for this thread in search of new places to buy clothes that I can slash up and make over.  Wink
3  CANADA / Ontario / Re: Parkdale Arts and Crafts Fair! Who'll be there? on: July 20, 2007 06:12:56 PM
LOL.

I've walked at night through very short stretches of the neighborhood, and lived to tell the tale.  Wink

I'm sorry I missed the fair.  I have no real excuse, considering I live here (Parkdale, that is).

Where dost thou go?  Wink

I bought some fabric way-back-when in the Queen/Spadina area.

And I'm finally getting set to make something.

But I don't have any thread, buttons, etc.  And I want ribbon, etc.

Plus dressmaker's chalk, along with other general sewing supplies.

(I've already got a machine, thank God.)

Does anyone know anything about this book?

The only thing I could find was the title... Undecided

If it's the second coming of Sew U, I want a copy.
6  CANADA / Ontario / Re: where to buy a sewing machine in toronto? on: May 13, 2007 09:16:45 PM
I'm resurrecting this thread because I need a machine. I see that Walmart at the Dufferin mall has a sale on machines for $99.00.  Yet I don't want to spend that much.  I'm practically broke.

I've been eyeing Craigslist. Have any of you bought a machine there?

Quite honestly, if I don't have a sewing machine soon...I might die.  Sad

I passed the cafe on the streetcar on my way home tonight. Hope to sign up for something in a month or two.  Cheesy

Another person recommending Sew U. I'm not a beginner, but the instructions took me back to basics. It should tell you all you need to know to get started.

Here's a question...

(I'm hijacking the thread)

What about craft stores in general? Is there a site out there with a good list?

I intend to move to Toronto soon.
