1  I think I'm crocheting, but I think it's wrong in Crochet: Discussion and Questions by FauxChina on: March 25, 2007 03:12:01 PM
I made a square in single crochet, it's a little wonky, but I'm proud as it's the first thing I've ever crocheted.  I'm very confused about turning though.  I did it in rows, at the end of each row I made a chain stitch, then kept on going so I was working right to left for foundation chain, then left to right, then right to left and so on. Should I be actually turning the fabric around?  What about a right and wrong side of the fabric, will turning it around affect it at all?

Here's a picture of my square:

I also made a square in double crochet, not quite as wonky because I didn't miss as many stitches.  I've just learned triple crochet and I'm working on a square in that, but I need your help in case I'm doing it all wrong.

2  Re: Loop purse how to? in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions by FauxChina on: September 12, 2006 11:20:49 AM
I made something similar to that, well at least the same handle style.  I'm sure you could make the bottom more rounded if you made a separate piece for the middle/sides, like an elongated oval?  The handles are attached, so all you have to do is make one significantly smaller, and the other long enough that it will fit around your hand and on to your wrist, with say an inch or so extra for slack.  I made a really rough picture of the pattern template, I hope that's ok and McCall's doesn't give me shit, if it's a problem let me know and I'll remove it.

Here's my posts with the finished purses, the second one turned out much better, although I didn't dart the bottom of either as I was supposed to.

3  Elvis bar purse/wristlet in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by FauxChina on: July 19, 2006 12:17:11 PM
Ok, so this is my second attempt at the New Look 6574 view B pattern.  I sewed it by hand and added a pocket to the inside, nothing fancy but I dig it.  This one is going to an Elvis-obsessed friend of mine.  I think it looks way better than the first one that I did.  The bottom looks a little wonky because I was supposed to dart it, but neglected to do so because I was kinda afraid of screwing up.  I'm pleased, and I'll find out if the recipient likes it soon.  So, here are the pictures, the first is the inside with the handy dandy pocket and the second is right side out and closed.

4  I made a bar purse/wristlet (3 pictures) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by FauxChina on: June 01, 2006 10:33:33 AM
Hey, I made this purse for my mom, it was supposed to be for her trip to Vegas, but because we live an hour away from eachother, she wasn't able to pick it up before she left, so I gave it to her for Mothers Day and she absolutely loved it.  My mom is such a girly girl so I picked up that pink flowery fabric from Wal-Mart for $8.50 Canadian a yard, I'm not sure what kind of material it is though, and I had some plain white fabric laying around that I used to line it.  It was my first time sewing something in years, and my very first time using a pattern, I semi followed New Look 6574 view B, I don't know how to read a pattern, but I'm quite pleased with the finished project considering I sewed it all by hand with embroidery thread because I didn't have normal thread or bobbins for the sewing machine, it took me three days to finish it.   I know next time what to do to make it better.   So, here's the pictures.

Here's the inside with a pocket I added

And here it is closed
