1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: mail art experimental results on: March 12, 2006 09:29:19 PM
Back when I was in high school my band stand partner received a mailed/altered toothpaste tube with a letter inside from her boyfriend.

If you do this mailart swap just be sure to properly address and provide return address because if it is mailed in the US the Department of Homeland Security may have a thing or two to say about anything that they think might be suspicious.  If you already do mailart and swap ATCs internationally you've probably already gotten the funny looks at your post office but just a warning.
2  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Princess, hope all is well on: March 06, 2006 03:24:29 PM
Princessblue,

Hope your mole surgery went well and that you are on the mend.

I'm working on cards-well, roughing out some card color schemes and concepts but not actually doing the work  Wink

If this swap gets going I am still interested if I may participate.

Thanks again for considering and hope all ils well with you.

Temporary Tattoos-in wicked design of your choice
Red Hots candies-or some other wicked spicy/sour candy.

Could you silkscreen something onto the boxer briefs?

http://community.livejournal.com/craftgrrl/3674467.html

There's the tutorial that's probably been posted on here a few dozen times that makes it look pretty easy.

Or you could make him a Terrible Towel pillow to sleep with.  As a Steelers fan he would probably think it was funny.
5  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Add-to-my Traveling Journal..PLEASE!! on: March 01, 2006 12:31:59 AM
I don't know what happened to it but I was thinking that if you wanted to include folks from out of the country you live in for additions to your journal why not send them the page measurements and just have them send a page to be pasted in-or a postcard or something to be added to the journal-saves on the postage of sending an entire book airmail.
6  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: decoupage question on: March 01, 2006 12:28:42 AM
Acrylic gel mediums work pretty well and Magic PVA glue works...it's sort of like elmers.  A plastic pastry scraper or plastic flat edge of some kind-like a credit card-can help you smooth down your images while the glue is still wet.

I also find that sometimes precoating the collage image with a layer of glue and letting it dry before fixing it to a page helps.
7  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Grieving Shrine advice on: March 01, 2006 12:14:56 AM
Could you make a pocket shrine in an altoid tin, something you could tuck into your purse that is just for you.  I've seen several small shrines like that and even some smaller made in matchbox size.  paint it, collage it, put stuff in it, make sculpey things to put in it or buy small trinkets to put in there.

Or you could collage a small box and make small collage cards with quotes you like-pictures, your own art work, whatever you'd like.  I suffer from depression and have a small collaged box that I use to help me.  There are two ways you can approach it-you can approach it like a box you use to put all the unhappy thoughts into-to purge the thoughts and give them away to this box or you can use the box to collect your happy thoughts and revisit them often.  You could even go so far as to making a two sided box so that you can decide which side you want to work on for that moment-the good or the bad.

I am sorry you are going through this, my husband and I watched our friends suffering through infertility issues and it was pretty hard on them.  I hope you find something that works out for your shrine idea.

Bookmarks-paper, ribbon, rubber stamps.  Have the bookmarks precut and plenty of different things to decorate them with

Handmade books-Paper, colored paper, stapler or paper punch and tie together with ribbons

Rock paperweights-you'd need to buy rock either from a bulk place-or see if they'll donate it.  or a garden center.  You could even call it the "reading rocks" craft

Not sure what your budget is like for this party so I just suggested a few that are  probably pretty inexpensive.

9  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Need ideas for care package (img heavy!) on: February 28, 2006 11:27:06 PM
I always think food is a good idea.  Maybe tiny food-like cookies the size of a penny or tiny loaves of bread or something equally silly looking that might mail well.  Add a corny note about how you feel so small without him or something like that.  I'm not so good with the verse.  Or you could always just send a couple of regular sized cookies that you made in funny shapes-or regular cookie shapes.

A deck of cards with your face collaged on all the queens and his face collaged on all the kings....and the jokers?

I'm probably only good for corny ideas.

If you had more time i would suggest boudoir photos of yourself-real or photoshopped.  Even really fake photoshopped ones are pretty fun-especially if you find a photo with a couple that you could shop in his and your face.
10  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re: I have over 5000 bottle caps!!! HELP!!! on: February 28, 2006 11:11:09 PM
http://www.stairgalleries.com/auction/10-23-2004/lots/101-200/138.htm

There's a snake up for auction that you could try making-bet you could make a LOT of snakes with 5000+ bottle caps.

I've seen cool folk art/tramp art/outsider art  bottle cap sculptures.   Here are some more ideas to mull over:

Fridge magnets-paint them, collage them, leave them the way they are
Bottle cap mosaics
bottle cap purses
bottle cap "chain mail" armor
bottle cap clothing-similar construction as armor-bottle cap lingerie

You could do a lot with the caps

I'll keep it quiet about throwing them in your washing machine Wink
