1  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Anyone made a fabric-covered memo board with criss-cross front? on: February 10, 2007 08:07:26 AM
ok, there must be a technical name for these, but I want something like this:

and was wondering if anyone could give me some hints on home to make one? What is a suitable backing board, do you need to put padding underneath, what kind of tape do you use and how do you affix it at each 'cross'?

Thanks in advance  Grin
2  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Help me make curtains for the first time! on: February 07, 2007 06:38:36 AM
Ok, so I want to make curtains for my living room.  I have never done this before but do really wantto learn.  Can you lovely girls help me?

I have picked out my fabric, it is the one at the bottom of this picture:

I want to have quite a simple top, I was thinking about using an eyelet top kind of like this:

Do you think that could work with this fabric?  I am in the UK and have found a few places you can buy eyelets here, you buy the rings and it looks like you either get something to punch holes in the fabric included, or else you cut with scissors once you've fitted the rings.... has anyone ever worked with these eyelets, and is it easy or difficult?  Is using the normal sort of curtain tape easier or harder than this?  Can anyone suggest some nice simple,clean-looking curtain top possibilities? (I mean possibilities for fixing it to a curtain rail).

I would be really grateful to anyone who could give me some pointers for simple curtain patterns.  Also, I don't even know how much fabric to buy!  My window is about 180cm by 180cm, so it's big.  The fabric width is 140cm.  Fortunately the stripes will make it quite easy to join widths together, but how much fabric do I need? How many fabric widths are you supposed to have across your window?

Thanks so, so much in advance for any help that anyone can offer me!
3  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Need some ideas for a cushion cover.... on: January 23, 2007 12:57:45 PM
I have 4 fat quarters of Heather Bailey fabric

http://www.freespiritfabric.com/core-pages/gallery.php?gal_id=108&PHPSESSID=7043522940d6e485f4efc891c420a126

which I love (I have a floral, a couple of paisley-ish ones, and a stripe).  I need to turn these into a nice cushion cover for a chair seat.  I am not very imaginative when it comes to fabric and I need some ideas in terms of what I could do with just 4 designs.  I don't want something that will take forever, but I want it to be nice.  I guess I'm open to a basic kind of quilty design, but I think I would prefer something more geometrical, perhaps... something cool but not too complex.

I think I also want to put buttons on the seat cover (although I'm not totally sure on this one) so I think the design needs to be not-too-fussy, since it'll have buttons on the top of it.  Then again, I could leave the buttons off.  I have no buttons and no idea how I would attach them. LOL.

What do you think I should do?  Any ideas as to where I could look?  I am flummoxed and need inspiration  Grin  Thanks so much in advance.
4  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Purlsoho - lovely stuff!! on: January 04, 2007 07:31:11 AM
I'm practically having kittens at the lovely fabric and stuff on the purlsoho.com website - I'd no idea they did quilting too!  So beautiful and inspirational.

5  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Lady Eleanor as a blanket.... on: January 02, 2007 10:07:48 AM
I just wondered if anyone else had done this or thought about doing this.  I love the look of Lady E but realise that she'd get a lot more use as a blanket / back-of-armchair-throw type thing than she would as a scarf/shawl.  Obviously it'd just be a matter of doing the same, but bigger.  I think this could work well... anyone done it though?
6  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Help me make my own version of the $120 hat...... on: November 10, 2005 02:53:51 PM
Ok, so I love this hat:

but flatly refuse to pay $120 for a HAT!  I'm not super-fussed about recreating the pattern, it's the shape I really like.  Who can help? Smiley
7  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / striped sweater on the cover of Rebecca issue 23? on: November 02, 2005 05:56:07 PM

Really like the look of this sweater! Has anyone got the magazine? I'm trying to find out a bit more about the pattern before I even consider spending $16 on the magazine... what kind of neckline does it have? I can't see if it's a round-neck or a boat-neck from the picture.

8  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Artesano Alpaca Amigo on: October 24, 2005 08:01:54 PM
http://www.laughinghens.com/knitting-pattern.asp?patternid=368 looks like a really nice pattern...however.. ... I really can't see it !

Has anyone, by any chance, ever heard of / made this sweater?

9  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Colinette Perugino on: October 24, 2005 07:47:40 PM
I'm loving the look of this:

http://www.colinette.com/sess/utn;jsessionid=15435d9c03b12fa/shopdata/0060_kits/0060_throws/0020_Perugino+throw/product_details.shopscript?article=0010_Perugino%2Bthrow%2B-%2Bshade%2BLatte%2B%3D28KTPERUGINO%2B-%2BLATTE%3D29

Has anybody bought one of the kits?  It's priced much more reasonably than the AbFab was - is it much smaller? I love it in the Latte and Still Waters colourways. So purty!

I have these:

and *love* them to bits.  They are the best thing ever.  Does anyone know where I can find a pattern to make my own?
