Thanks all!

nice case and stuff.  Slick.

I think you can also get kits for 3 channel organs...just a _little_ more pimp :-D.

Have you tried it in high SPL situations yet - at a club - does it drive?

3 channels would rock, unfortunately all the kits I've seen are the size of a book and AC powered, not mini and battery powered like this one. Sad

Not yet, but I'm taking it out for a spin tommorrow night!

The instructions are very easy to follow, but you do need to know how to solder because it's completely disassembled. Unfortunately, it only comes with red LEDs and you can't use another color (well, except green) without rebuilding the kit with custom parts.

I built a color organ from a kit and housed it in an altoids tin. Using a phone clip and velcro strap I made it wearable so it can be worn to the club. A color organ is a circuit that flashes a light when it hears sound.

I also thought about making it into a belt buckle, or have a shirt with a pocket in the chest to slip this into...

Ah kitties, the evil darlings!

If you're not handy with metal, I have a suggestion for an alternative to this, which may or may not work, but it might be worth a try...  A friend of mine recently picked up some contact paper at Target that looks almost exactly like brushed metal.  Honestly, it looks pretty good!  (Not like that fakey faux wood stuff.)  I wonder if you stuck the contact paper to the couch around the corners, it would look almost the same as this and be protective in a similar way.  Maybe not quite as stylish though!

Good idea! That could also be practical for counter edges instead of using tin foil or anywhere else you want to quickly put up something to discourage them.
