1  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / The perils of drunk crocheting on: December 09, 2006 11:06:47 PM
Okay. so this weekend was my school's holiday ball/banquit and it marks the end of classes and it's just a general celebration of life. Therefore, I was slightly intoxicated with my friends, making fun of this frightening yarn that someone bought my friend as part of a project. We vetoed the yarn and used a different one, but we had this skein my friend had already opened. The topic of mittens came up and, as none of us had tried to make them before, I decide to give it a shot.

I present to you the scary results of crocheting something you've never made before, with no pattern or anything, intoxicated:

One may say, looking at that, that's not quite so bad. but WAIT! it gets worse

2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / coffee table book of sorts- need help! on: August 18, 2006 08:45:46 AM
Hi!

okay, soo my friends birthday coming up and I have about a week to work on her gift. I had bought two old 2006 calendars(for a dollar!) because they had amazing pictures she'd love, a vintage pin-up esque bikini one and a pop-art calendar. I thought and thought and thought and decided to make her a coffee table book, it's good cause we're living together this year and probably in the future.. and coffee table books are fun!
haha
so I also have a bunch of record covers that I had been meaning to do something with and they're about the same size, so they're going in as well.
all I need (besides figuring out how I'm actually going to make the book,  Roll Eyes) are little bodies of work to put on the opposite page. I want one picture and then a page of writing, so I need around 30 things that I could put in there.

not to say that a "page of writing" couldn't be a song lyric or anything, but if you guys have any ideas that'd be AWESOME. I'm thinking of putting together a page of fears, recipes, remember when-80s and 90s, etc. basically, I'm trying to do more general stuff that aren't things only we'd enjoy, so I figure asking you guys will help get a better mix. honestly, if you have ANY ideas, plleeease let me know  Cheesy

ps- this is a link to the bikini calendar for 2007, just so you can see what style the pictures are in - click on view content to see the back

3  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Craftalongs / Rapunzel, rapunzel, let down your hair! (scarf) on: December 12, 2005 01:33:56 AM
so there's this scarf on anthropogie (http://www.anthropologie.com/jump.jsp?itemID=9029&itemType=PRODUCT&iSubCat=357&iMainCat=336)
that I love. It's not knit or crocheted, which is why I'm throwing it here.. if I'm wrong, feel free to move it whereever.
is it really as simple as it looks, a ton of different strands of yarn, ribbon, etc, seperated into three chunks and braided together? somehow, I doubt mine would look that awesome. What do you guys think? I've already asked my mom to nag her friends into giving me 6 or 7 feet of yarn scraps, not sure how many I'll actually need to get it looking not skimpy. whoo!
4  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / My first scarf! on: December 12, 2005 01:22:20 AM
I just finished my first crocheted scarf last night! It's only my second project ever completed, my first being one of those Ama(I 'm not going to even try to spell that one)/cute little stuffed roxy stuffed animals a little while ago.
I saw hazydaystar88's scarf here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=59171.0 and I fell in love with it, so I based mine off of it. whoo!! I started out with dc because I was originally in a rush to make it for a friend for a gift swap, but I wound up making her something else and keeping it for me!

Here's my friend modeling it

and cloooooser (this is where you can tell I'm a beginner. oh well! I still like it!)

and closer. gotta love walmart's scrap fabric bins.
5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Merry Craftmas/ Craftika gift for VERY difficult friend.. help! on: November 23, 2005 12:45:05 AM
So my friends and I are doing a "secret snowflake" craft-related gift exchange this year. I was the lucky one who picked our most difficult friend. It has to be something craft related, but that's the end of the requirements. On hand I have a deck of cards, two picture frames I can do anything with, a 14x14 inch pillow insert, velcro strips, VERY limited knitting ability, limited sewing ability and novice crocheting experience. I do have my mom to help me with crocheting, if needed, at least until sunday when I go back to school!
My friend is 19 and female, she is VERY tom-boyish, doesn't carry a purse, doesn't carry a real wallet, doesn't carry a tote-bag or anything other than her bookbag I don't see her parting with. Her favorite colors are orange and blue, she LOVE ice hockey but can't play anymore due to a head injury. She loves the jersey devils and the red sox, she likes bon jovi, frogs and goofy. We went on a trip to las vegas together and will be going to australia together soon. We were roommates last year. she likes to sew and drink, not necc. together  Wink

Originally I was thinking about making those personalized cards, there's a tutorial floating around somewhere. I figured that way I could incorperate her different interests. My main concern with that is that making it look good, haha. I'm also wondering if it will look bad, just handing her a deck of cards when other people will most likely give larger objects.
I was also thinking of making some kit for a drinking night, put in the cards, maybe do somethign with the picture frame for it, etc.

any ideas?
