1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Discussion and Questions / origami bead- how to? on: April 17, 2006 02:12:31 PM
Hi.  Does anyone know how to make something like this?

I really want to be able to make something similar out of paper, ribbon, etc.
They seem to be made out of a folded long strip- similar to the way people fold up paper stars.  I know people make all kinds of other stuff folding up a long thin strip like that.  On trips I've seen people making fish and grasshoppers, flowers... for tourists out of long blades of grass.  Does anyone know if there is a name for this (folding up a strip instead of a square like origami)?   I'm having no luck in my searches.
2  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Discussion and Questions / preventing tarnish on: April 10, 2006 07:35:39 PM
Hi.  Does anyone out there know of a good way of preventing tarnish on silver beads?  Is there some way to coat them with something before stringing them? I have some thai ones with a lot of little details that are just turning black instantly-- (bad air!).  I'd appreciate any help.
3  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / insomnia= beading (lots o pics) on: April 09, 2006 04:27:19 PM
I haven't been able to sleep at night lately- so I've just been making stuff instead.  These are my latest.  This one is a stick pin with carnelian beads.
A bracelet with green garnets I got this week and silver hourglass shapes- kind of plain but simple can be good, yes?
Another one with the hourglasses
and a bead-woven bracelet- seed beads and little garnets

4  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / looking for tips from other bead-weavers on: March 31, 2006 10:38:35 PM
Hi.  This is my first time posting my work.  I started doing bead-weaving about a year and a half ago, I mostly learned from about.com tutorials and other online how-tos.  I've been making lots of bracelets, and I'd really like to start making some jewelry to sell, but these just take me WAY too long to be profitable. (maybe 5 hours or more)  I've gotten a little bit faster, but I don't know if this is just a very slow process or if there is something I'm not doing correctly.  I'd love any advice.  Also, how much do you think I could ask for something like this?

these have a triangle of brick-stitch at each end- about 2" wide

5  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / where to get stick pins? on: November 11, 2005 09:22:12 AM
Does anyone know a good place to order plain stickpins for making brooches, etc.  or know of a good DIY alternative? (saftey pins would show)  I saw some in the Firemountain catalog, but they want $8 for shipping when I just want some $2 item.
