41  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: One Skein secret pal on: May 11, 2006 07:59:20 AM
I've gotten both My SP8 pal and one skein pal. I've even heard from my SP8 pal already. Hopefully I'll hear from my one skein pal soon.

I'm so jealous!  I have been waiting on my Hitchhiker since FEBRUARY and you get to just go and pick one up! Roll Eyes

Hopefully mine will indeed ship next week as Dave promised.. otherwise I'll be highly annoyed Cheesy

Have you been in contact with him by email at all? We were supposed to get 3 bobbins with ours and we each only got one. I emailed him, but haven't heard back from him yet. Just wondering if it takes him a while to get to his emails.
43  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Very Easy Ripple Shawl...not so easy for me. on: May 09, 2006 04:38:22 AM
This isn't really much help but more of a commiseration. The pattern doesn't work because it's evil.

E-V-I-L evil.

I had similar issues. Everything was going fine, the world was happy, suddenly at row 80 or 90 I'm off a stitch, I rip back to figure out the issue and End up losing 10 or 12 rows. Start again. ended up even more stitches off. Repeated the process several more times, then I stuffed the whole thing in a bag. I Called it lots of bad names and have refused to speak to it.  I keep it seperate from my other projects for fear that it will spread it's bad influence.

Best of luck with the shawl. Hopefully you have the chutzpah to get the evil beast to behave.

I have a hitchhiker. I got it over to my mom's house tonight to try to show her how to use hers and it worked just fine again. Maybe I am just making some common beginners mistake. I'll keep practicing and see what happens I suppose.

I got my new wheel last night and I tried spinning. After a lot of trial and error trying to get the wheel started I was finally able to sping up a couple small skeins of uneven thick and thin. Tonight I try starting to spin up some more practice fiber. Every time I start spinning, my fiber just breaks. I've adjusted the tension in different ways, but I just can't seem to get it started evenly I get spinning for a few inches then my rhythm goes completely off and the fiber doesn't seem to get any spin then it breaks.

I've been searching and I can find lots of tutorials on drop spindling on the net, but nothing on spinning on a wheel. Does anyone know of one so I can ge started without frustrating myself half to death?

Funny, she said the same thing about the Mother's Day gift  Wink I bought some peacock colored (her favorite!) wool and firestar today, I'm going to make her a custom skein of yarn amongst other things. This was my early birthday present too though.

Now the frustration begins of trying to teach myself to spin never having used a wheel before. I find it very odd that there are so many tutorials for drop spindling on the net, yet not a single wheel spinning tutorial.

Boggles the mind.

Update! I just added pics of the wheel and all my goodies to my blog. Mmmm. I just want to roll in fiber.

Yeah. I think that might be a tiny bit out of the way.  Cheesy I believe there is a sheep and wool festival in New Hampshire though, in case you don't get to hit the Maryland one.

I was commissioned by my best friend to knit a pair of funky, fluffy novelty yarn house socks for her mother. I found one decent shot of what I'm looking for http://www.crystalpalaceyarns.com/cpy/patterns/cotton_chen_whisper_slipprs.html (hideous, aren't they?),  but I hate the idea of kitting the socks flat. Anyone else ever stumble on some hideous fuzzy house socks?
