11  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Super Mod Sewing Box - Loads of Pics - edit : Tut. Added! on: February 06, 2009 10:15:28 AM
Howdy All!

I have been meaning to post this idea for a while now, but up until recently I have only had a crappy cell to take pictures with - but not anymore!
As I am sure many of you do, I had an ugly old sewing box that had been given to me eons ago by my Baba. Well, I got tired of looking at it and was about to throw it away when I realized "Hey! That's not in the spirit of Craftster!" So.....

And the Pin-cushion:

Ouch!

Any-who, I reccommend "reupholstering" sewing boxes to you all - its a fun quick job and you'll end up with a better one than you'll find at Joanns!

*this is only my second post - so, if you have any suggestions Please do let me know!*
12  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Discussion and Questions / Yoga Mat & Stencils? on: January 15, 2009 02:27:45 PM
HOWDY!

Ok, I just started yoga & inherited an old light blue mat from my sister. It is boring & I would love to make a lotus or hamsa stencil to dress it up a bit. I have no idea what yoga mats are made out of & I was wondering if I could bleach it or paint on it without the paint peeling off when I roll it up. Normally I would experiment, but I don't want to screw it up since I only have one. Thanks soooo much for any advice!!!
13  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Rockin' baby tops on: January 08, 2009 04:48:26 PM

Alright ladies and gents, prepare yourselves, this is my very first post! Don't be surprised if I've messed it up a bit - also be prepared for poor picture quality (I used a handy). Now that that's out of the way, check out the baby clothes! I have several friends/relatives ready to have their first offspring (starting any day now), so I have been preparing myself for the multiple showers I will be forced to attend. Though many have registered (which I find a little tacky) I have decided to make them their pressies instead. So, without further ado....

(for twin girls - front & back images)

and...

so, enough jaw-wagging. Let me know what ya think - I could use some help, like - what is a paint I can use for the lettering that won't dry so stiff? I used the cool freezer paper technique. Thanks for looking!
14  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Suggest New Boards and New Features / Basket Weaving on: February 21, 2007 10:06:21 AM
I have looked around and noticed that there is no place for basket weaving. The weaving board under "other fiber arts" is just for tapestries, shawls, blankets, rugs, etc. I think we ought to share our basket ideas!
15  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Fun with Bleach? on: January 02, 2007 02:28:59 PM
Howdy Gals & Guys - I have a question for you all. Here's my conundrum - (other than poor spelling ability, ) what is the proper method of "drawing" with bleach on a cotton top? I have a cute little black tank that accidentally got a bit of bleach on it. I decided to save it by buying a clorox bleach pen & doodling an octopus or something. So here's what I don't know - how long to I leave the bleach on the fabric? The shirt is quite thin & I don't want the bleach to eat holes into it. Do I rinse it out immediately, or do I pop it into the washer? Any answers or additional hints would be greatly appreciated!!!!! - O.
16  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / How can I transform myself into a flapper by the 31st??? on: September 16, 2006 11:28:08 PM
So, my best friend and I are going top a crazy Elvis wedding this halloween. We desperately want to go as 1920's "flappers" but need your help! I am planning on wearing some kind of black fringe-y dress, but thats about the only idea I've got. I am so commited to this that I have agreed to cut my long hair into a bob. So here's where you come in... I need your ideas! Any thoughts? I would really appreciate it!
17  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Virgin of Guadalupe Shrine. Our lady of what? on: September 10, 2006 06:51:15 PM
   Alrighty fellow artists,
its time to rack your brains. The lady of Guadalupe and myself need a bit of crafty inspiration. Heres the deal: for about eight years (give or take) I have had an old horse/ goat trough sitting out in my back pasture just begging to be upgraded. I finally had a moment of devine inspiration: turn it into a kitchy shrine to the Virgin of Guadalupe! Now I am stuck. I have some basic ideas, but now don't know where to go. The soon to be shrine is now laying on its side, it is about a foot tall and a little wider than that. The top (or ceiling) of the trough slopes gently upwards. I plan on mosaic-ing the back "wall" with mirrors. I have a few vauge ideas of adding flowers, a crown, a cross or two, perhaps some milagros, stars, maybe a dove, and going with the colors of the Mexican flag, with a dash of cobalt blue. Mosaic-ing is most definatly in, and electric lights are most definatly out. When finished, there should be plenty of room for candles.
So, what do you all think? Please post any ideas. Rember, a bit of kitch is a must, so don't hold back! Thanks all! I look forward to your ideas!
18  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Parisian Parlour on: April 13, 2006 08:23:01 PM
Bon Jour all,
We are in desperate need of guidance. By we, I mean me and my future apartment-mate Jenna. She is interested in designing her room with a pink Parisian flair. We have already decided to paint the walls pink and black (striped) and have picked out a lamp (Eiffel tower motif), but are stuck. Do any of you oh so clever craftsters have any ideas? We would be tres obliged! Merci! - Ophelia
