3  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Urban Outfitters-esque Beret! on: August 05, 2008 06:35:29 PM
Following the trend of slouchy hats/ large berets, I decided to crochet one for my friend for her birthday instead of buying the ones at Urban for $30+! I went out and bought yarn (1 skein was only $2!) and a needle yesterday and taught myself how to crochet from the lovely videos and advice given on this forum :] I basically followed a video of a lady crocheting a rasta cap (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-R7athkDDs) only I subtracted some rounds and the popcorn stitch and kind of winged it when I got to the band of the beret. Overall this was a great first project :]

4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Gold/Black/Houndstooth Prom Dress (very belated post) on: July 25, 2008 05:14:28 PM
I originally made this dress for my college portfolio and then I really liked it so I decided to wear it to prom! I had to take it apart and remake it since the original dress was probably a size 0. So here it is!

Edited to add actual prom pictures :]

my date and I, gnacissej (she also made her dress) and I

5  CLOTHING / Shoes: Completed Projects / Re: ROY ROY ROY OVERLOAD! (image heavy) on: July 17, 2008 12:57:29 AM
Wow! These are great! Dd you stencil the image before painting it or just free hand from a picture. Very well crafted and so crisp.

this definitely rocks!

its freehanded and i used a picture as a reference

LOL the comic on the first pair of shoes is actually also a mural on one of the walls at my highschool XP
i never knew it actually comes from something LOL

but yeah. great job!!!
you really just use acrylic paint? doesnt it bleed if it gets wet? or are these like.. just for display. and do you know if it cracks?
i use acrylic paint mixed with textile medium, but i havent heat sealed any of my shoes yet.. so idk.

if you have any more info on how you paint shoes, please do indulge me! Cheesy

yupp acrylic paint from michaels, it doesnt bleed at all on canvas and these shoes are tottallly wearable! ive been wearing a pair for almost two years and they crack a little bit where the front of your foot bends, but thats common after wearing shoes for a while

thanks for the feedback! to answer your questions...

-the paint is regular acrylic painted in very thin layers so the canvas doesnt get stiff

-i mix the paints to get the right color for things such as the skin :]
