11  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Re: Fiber Friday (11 Aug 06) on: August 11, 2006 07:02:50 AM
I love fiber friday!

Faerietail - I love the textures of your yarns! They look wonderful!

Pixiefarts - The colors in your fiber are fabulous! What method/dyes do you use?

Here's what I've been doing this week that I didn't already post in my post earlier this week:

The first one is called Purple Popsicles. When I was dying my fiber, I wanted something moodier and brooding, but I think I am doomed to always spin up cheery yarns!

The Second one is The Green Giant Gets a Soft Side, and is soo soo soft.

12  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Yarn porn: Green-Eyed Monster and some starry madness! on: August 08, 2006 02:54:54 PM
I've been spinning like crazy and am so proud of my creations!

The first is called Green-Eyed monster and is a wonderfully colored two-ply.

The second is called I'm Glad I Hitched My Apple Wagon to your Star and is inspired by the Boy Least Likely To song. The best part about this yarn is I spun it up with some shiny gold nylon fibers I got from HelloYarn.com, but I can't for the life of me get the sparkly fiber to show up in the pictures. Do any of you wonderful fiber photographers have any tricks?

Here are sparkle-less photos:

Action shot! whoooshhhh

wealleatpasta, the strawberry sunrise yarn is so very very beautiful!  It's enough to make me think about learning to spin (and then learning to knit!!!). I recently inherited a spinning wheel and I must say I've been wondering...

You already have a spinning wheel? Then by all means go for it!
If you want to try your hand on spinning for cheap, get a pound or two of fiber (or more!) from http://www.thesheepshedstudio.com/Roving.html mentioned in the discussions forum and you can get a pound of mill end roving (which is a lot) for only $7.50.

Or better yet, ask around people you know and try to find a spinner in your area who can help you out. Spinners tend to love sharing their craft with others and I am sure one will give you some better spinning wool and show you how to use your wheel.

Spinning is a wonderful hobby!

Thanks for all the kind comments as well! I am in love with all of this week's yarns. It is wonderful to be able to watch and be inspired by all you wonderful crafter who inspired me to pursue crafting as well!

My mom's friend let me borrow her spinning wheel indefinitely and I love it. I've been spining up a storm, but only took picture of one completed yarn.* More will be coming up on my etsy shop though!

*EDIT-Took one more picture just now!

This one is called strawberry sunrise

And Chickfactor, named after a lovely Belle and Sabastian song

17  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: The Octo-hat! on: July 12, 2006 08:06:39 PM
Did you use intarsia for the octopi? If so, I bow to you! I attempted the feat of intarsia in the round once and believe me, I will never try that again!

That is impressively even and balanced for a first yarn! Good work!! Spinning is so addicting isn't it!
