1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Completed Recipe Box (complete w/ photos) on: December 26, 2006 07:43:35 PM
so for christmas this year, my best friend requested a recipe box/book since she's getting married in April next year and she can't cook.. except for using the microwave on those quick tv dinners Sad
taking inspiration from this recipe box made for the recipe swap awhile back, l tried to make my own mini kitchen. unfortch mine did not come out as cute, but she still enjoyed it!

onto the pictures!

top view. it's a bit plain, l couldn't find my glue gun so everything is attatched with massive amounts of mod podge! in my excitment to schlack everything together, l forgot to do the smaller details like painting in the stove top or adding little knobs Sad

again pretty plain. the box l found didn't have a latch was extra tall to accomadate recipe cards, and l was too scared to try drawing in a stove window..

home made recipe cards. l bought a whole booklet of retro print cards that l cut down to size, then mod podged with plain paper so l could hand write out the recipe ingredients on the front, and the instructions on the back. l found all of my super easy recipes from the "help! my apartment has a kitchen" book (highly recommended for new chefs)

cute cardstock that l used to make the dividers. l bought really cute fabric that matches to make an apron with, but l ran out of time.. plus my sewing machine is BURIED under all sorts of craft supplies.. so now l think that will be her wedding shower gift Smiley

sample of one of the recipies. haha, she asked me why l mod podged both sides and it was partly so the front and back would match, but another reason would be the easy clean up of the cards! since l figure she'll get grease and what not on them, l don't want them to be ruined too easily. but it was a bit time consuming.. and l did put off the project for too long so l need to work on adding more cards to her box!

thanks for looking!! l had to wait until we finished our gift exchange before posting pics Smiley l also bought her this really cute weekly meal organizer that had retro print paper that was magnetic for the fridge. it was a really good idea, with space to plan out meals and a shopping list that tore off on the side! l should've bought one for myself while l was at it
2  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Completed Projects / Nightmare Before Christmas Etched Champagne Glasses on: October 07, 2006 12:16:55 AM
so my friend is going to Vegas at the end of this month for a family friend's wedding, and when he told me it was going to be a Nightmare Before Christmas wedding.. well I told him I was going to crash the wedding! So to make up for my wedding crashing (I'm even invited to the bridal shower now!!) I personalized a pair of champagne glasses with Jack and Sally on the curly hill with the moon behind them. On the opposite side I tried my best to write their names, the date of the wedding and the location in the Nightmare font.
As you can see, I unfortunately don't have a proper camera at the moment, so these crap ass pictures are taken with my cell phone. :sigh: I figured I should try to be less selfish and give these to her tomorrow at her shower instead of waiting til the wedding to give them to her. I'm hoping that someone has a camera tomorrow so I can get better pictures Smiley

Anyways, I love them in real life, and maybe I'll make myself a pair!
3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / my first attempt at a magic wallet on: July 18, 2006 10:23:16 AM
so i sold some stuff for a friend on ebay and today i'm having lunch with her to give her the money. being the crafty friend that i am, i had to make a wallet for the money so i wouldn't just be handing her a boring wad of cash (although i have to admit.. money is never boring)  i used only materials that i already had at home: fabric, cardboard, elastic, sewing machine, my own crappy hand stitching; and i had an old magic wallet for reference. so onto the pictures!

here's the front, along with the two pockets for cards. as you can tell, the front pocket is a bit wonky, but it does the job fine Smiley

the back, after i got frustrated with the pockets, i decided to go for a minimalist kinda look.. with no pockets.

the "magic" in action!

and finally a size reference for the thickness of the magic wallet (as shown with a fine tip sharpie)

and in case you didn't like the wallet, here's a picture of my poor old doxie enjoying her new pillow bed complete with a pillow case made by me out of some fabric i wanted to make pj pants out of.. but the bed was more important
4  COOKING / Dessert / I need a recipe for cherry jam/preserve on: June 24, 2006 11:52:05 PM
because my parents bought ALOT of cherries.. and we can't eat them fast enough. any recommended recipies to make these cherries into a jam or preserve??
5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / what should i ask for from china?? on: May 18, 2006 11:26:53 PM
so this is a very last minute, rush rush kind of question. my parents are going to china for about a week and a half, and they're going to be traveling with a tour group through beijing, xian, suzhou, hangwhou, and shanghai. my mom has been asking me what i want and all i could think of were the regular: post cards, shot glasses, bags, and candy. i tried to ask her for crafty supplies that i could use, but she wants to know specific things and i'm not sure what's in china that i should ask for. so... any suggestions??
i know i should've thought to ask here sooner, but i'm a tard and have many brain farts during finals week. therefore, you guys have less than 24 hrs to responds, as their flight leaves tomorrow from LAX around 11:30pm. hopefully i get some replies! (who knows, maybe i'll get something i could use for a swap  Wink ) thanks crafty guys and gals!
6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / help finding bridesmaid pattern!! on: March 12, 2006 09:29:46 PM
so i'm going to be in my best friend's wedding sometime next spring/summer and we went to david's bridal today to check out the dresses. we found one that's perfect for all the girls to wear, but the color selection isn't that great. are there any patterns out there that are at least similar to this style??

here are a couple pictures of the dress:

Sleeveless charmeuse empire waist tea-length dress with chiffon sash and peek-a-boo hem. Available in Burnt Orange, Jade, and Light Brown.

thanks in advance Smiley
7  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / what would you put inside a knitting travel/survival tin? on: February 16, 2006 04:38:43 PM
whenever i take projects outside of the house with me, i usually bring along an altoid tin that has tiny scissors, a measuring tape, a nail file, safety pins, and a crafting needle (not the official name, but y'know.. giant needle for weaving in ends); and one of my knitting friends has a birthday coming up. i want to make her a similar knitting survival tin, but with a theme of some sort (haven't quite decided yet) and i was wondering if there's anything else i should add?
probably some home made stitch markers, but is there anything else that i'm leaving out? if i could figure out a way to make a tiny needle guage that would fit inside the tin, that would be so cool.
what do you guys consider a necessary tool to have with you when you're knitting? maybe some stitch holders? a hair tie? (cause i'm ghetto and instead of getting those end things for my needles, i just bind them together with my hair tie  Grin )
anyways, thanks in advance!
8  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / finally posting some finished xmas gifts on: January 05, 2006 07:37:43 PM
so here are 3 seperate gifts :

my original plan for this project was to do that bottle cutting technique where you burn string and sheer off the top, but after drinking waaaaay too many bottles of frappaccino's and not being able to cut the top off, i came up with this

i bought a set of 4 tall glasses, frosted them with the starbucks logo, and a different coffee flavor on the backs of each. sorry the picture doesn't show the details that well

two plain old navy shirts stencilled for my friend. the blue one has an ass cause we all call him tom-ass Smiley it makes me so happy whenever he wears this shirt!

my first attempt at making a billow Smiley i think it came out pretty well for me winging it! it's too bad i don't have anything next to it for a size reference, but it's a pretty good sized blanket (4 yrds of fabric)

the lovely billow in pillow form!

thanks for looking Smiley
9  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / irish hiking wrist warmers! on: December 17, 2005 12:25:19 AM
my first non-scarf non-knifty knitter hat!!

soooo excited about how these turned out Smiley it was my first time doing cables, which are amazingly alot easier than i imagined, and first time doing a mattress seam! aaaannnndddd my first non-acrylic yarn! baby alpaca that i got on sale for 4 bucks Smiley very soft, very warm, very happy!

granted i read the directions wrong and made it one repeat shorter than the pattern, but it's still good Smiley
10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / wedding folder, what sections should i include?! on: December 15, 2005 02:57:01 PM
hello again Smiley
for xmas i'm making my best friend a wedding folder to keep herself organized with all her planning since she just got engaged! i also made 3 cd's worth of music (2 for the reception, 1 just for general background music while we craft away for the wedding) and i bought a folder with 5 dividers today. just wondering what topics should be created?
i was thinking along the lines of:
1. guests
2. wedding location
3. reception location
4. wedding dress/wedding colors
5. misc.

is there something more important that i should include?
i also got some of those nifty pocket inserts so she doesn't have to hole punch everything, and this way smaller things like wedding invitation samples won't get lost. i also got some business card holders for the back (to double as wedding color holders too.. i got paint samples from lowes to put in the folder)
am i missing anything?

thanks in advance for the help! i'm going to give this folder to her on monday, so any info asap would be greatly appreciated Smiley
