Definitely great for first crochet! I did this really terrible long uneven hideous scarf (if you want to call it that) for my first crochet.
So did I! Mine was especially hideous because I didn't know about dye lots and therefore had two different shades of the same variegated yarn. Yuck!
Man, I'm glad somebody else had one of those. A friend asked me to make her a Ravenclaw scarf, and I got two different brands of yarn that might've even been different weights, and didn't count my stitches. I just eyeballed where I thought rows ended
I gave it to her, even though I was sooo embarrassed about it. I recently made her another scarf out of nice alpaca/silk/wool blend yarn and a lacy stitch, so I feel a bit better now.
