1  Re: Come on sucker lick my battery... in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Malinki on: February 04, 2010 03:01:38 PM
Thanks everyone for all the really sweet comments. I gave him to my amazing BF about a month ago now and he absolutely loved him. It has become a bit of a habit to take Bert everywhere with us. Including to our friends' Harry Potter theme costume party - being slightly random we decided to make him a costume too. Our friends have now decided that we have to bring him dressed up to all future parties.

Presenting Dumblebert!

Any for anyone who is interested, here is my BF with Bert. I love how much he looks like he loves him Smiley

Since I made Bert and because the BF is away for three weeks... he has been coming on all kinds of adventures with me - it kind of makes me miss him less. Last night we went out for cupcakes with my friends in Covent Garden (in London), did some shopping, visited a bookshop, wandered through Soho and went for dinner...

Cupcakes, om om!

Got his neck squashed by a friendly busker:

Read some books:

Got mauled by strange ladies in shops:

Oh my:

Had some tasty foods:

Made a new best friend:

It is snowing here at the moment so if it settles our first plan of action is to make a Snowbot *fingers crossed*

3  Come on sucker lick my battery... UPDATED in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Malinki on: December 14, 2009 05:10:33 AM
For my BF's birthday (in January) I decided to make him a felt robot because robots are amazing. I started by making a tiny pink pet robot for the big robot. It had to be pink because 'our' album is Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips. The big robot took about 16 hours to complete and has about 1,650 hand stitches. On the night I met my BF, it was an early halloween party and I was dressed as the Queen of Hearts with red felt hearts stitched onto my tutu (and a pig's heart in a box but that is probably another Craftster post), the last of these felt hearts is stitched on to the chest of my robot. He has a coin slot in his back (complete with chocolate coin), his arms and legs are elasticated and his mouth and tongue and position-able Wink

So here he his, as yet nameless Bert (short for Ro-Bert) on location in the meter cupboard:

And here with his little pink robot pet:

And one for luck:

Hope you like him. We are going to go off today and do a shoot around London so I will try and post more pictures after that. I am thinking maybe he needs a scarf too and as yet he has no name so any suggestions are welcome.

Malinki xx

Edited to add: Today I took him on the London Underground... He loved it...

Waiting for the tube:

On the tube (which gives you a better idea of scale):

Finally:

I added a made with love tag to the back of his hand... It is attached with a surgical staple as once due to over-excitement I accidently surgically stapled the back of my hand Smiley It is held on with red ribbon which the BF used to tie something special. Awww!

And this is his coin slot (complete with chocolate coin) which pays homage to a whole slightly crazy afternoon spent listening to Dresden Dolls we once had.

Edited to add an update:

4  My first amigurumi - Reggie the Polar Bear in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by Malinki on: September 13, 2007 05:16:52 AM
Hello, I thought I would share with you my first amigurumi animal ever.

I didn't use a pattern because I am not very good at reading crochet patterns so I just sort of made him up as I went along.  I am really pleased with how he turned out for a first attempt, and without a pattern too.  Before I started I knew how to make a magic loop and increase and decrease circles and I think I am pretty good at thinking 3-dimensionally.  He is about 6 inches tall.  I wasn't really neat enough in places and I think he was a bit loose, so if I made something similar with the same cotton I would need to go down a hook size, but because he is white it is not so noticeable.  Also he does look a bit like a sheep Undecided

So here he is, Reggie the polar bear - smiling for the camera:

Full body shot Smiley  I made him a little tie (tied in a half-windsor knot) because he looked a bit naked.

And the side view, so you can see how chubby he is:

Finally, despite being originally from a cold climate, Reggie wanted to go out in the garden so here is:

I hope you like him, I need to work on my technique a bit especially the decreases.  But for a first attempt I think he came out well.  I guess now I know how to make the basic body and head shape I can do it in different colours with different ears and tails and so on and make lots of different animals Smiley

5  Re: GIANT monkey in lingerie! in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Malinki on: April 30, 2007 02:31:09 PM
Well, my boyfriend absolutely loved her.

Here she is on the way to London on the train, with felt banana and travelling pack:

And this is my boyfriend and her in bed... she is good to sleep on because she is soft and flatish, like a pillow.  D's is asleep in this pic, with his head under the pillow, not hiding from the camera!

I also made him a very cute monkey cake to 'match':

Wow... So freaking adorable i cant get over it, i cant belive you boy firned likes stuffies too!! Thats soo cool Smiley You got a good guy i tell ya..

Oh, he absolutely loooves stuffies! He has a cuddly okapi I bought him after he saw them in the zoo - he thought they were lovely and she watches him work and sometimes sleeps next to him and on our second date I made him a cuddly panettone called Roberto after he spent our first date making up songs and singing them to me about this inanimate italian cake product Smiley

Here is Roberto and his 'family' in the local italian deli:

This is poem my boyfriend wrote about him, called The Confessions of Roberto Panettone:

Once, in a confession box, Roberto Panettone
Coughed aloud and gave his nose a clear.
"Forgive me Father, not for sin. But I always talk baloney.
I fail to make a crumb of sense to any human ear."

With his confession finished, he bit his lip, a-snivelling
Waiting for the answer to appear.
He shuffled on his seat a bit, his moustache raisins swivelling
(He was once a singing gondolier).

"Roberto?" Said a voice at last, filled with rich suggestion
A voice oft used to conquer the basest mortal fear.
When the voice asked "Could you repeat the question?"
Roberto's crust a-crumbled, under a flow of sweet hot tears.

And made me this wallpaper for my phone which was the orginal inspiration for the stuffie:

I decided the white crochet looked cuter as lingerie:

and made a new yellow and pink bikini:

All done now bar the suitcase and bananas!

I just made her a crochet bikini top, which looks pretty cool with her dancing skirt.  Roll Eyes

It is more even than it looks in the picture, as she is twisted slightly to the side.

9  Paris Photographs IMAGE HEAVY in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by Malinki on: April 24, 2007 05:28:25 PM
I was lucky enough to go to Paris last weekend (a surprise from my boyfriend) and we got to go to a gorgeous food market, where I took some pictures.  Aslo a few others I took.  No standard tourist pics, I am afraid! I would love some feedback/critique.  I am thinking of switching to a DSLR camera, because I think I am at my limit of what I can do with my fairly good standard digital camera.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

10  GIANT monkey in lingerie! in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Malinki on: April 24, 2007 05:15:18 PM
It is my gorgeous boyfriend's birthday on Saturday, horrah! So to keep in company in bed (we live 100 miles apart) when I am not there during the week; I made Schmoola.  My boyfriend calls me his Snuggle monkey, so by making her from nuggly fleece he can cuddle up to her.

She is about 3 feet tall (my largest soft toy to date) and has a 22" waist; I made her from fleece and hand stitched the face on in felt with buttons for her eyes.  I made her some clothes, and tomorrow will make a bikini, some bananas and a suitcase to keep them in.  My boy abosolutely loves cuddly toys and I already make clothes for the toys he already had Smiley

This is Schmoola all dressed up, she is really excited about going to London on Friday on the train and she might even get a trip to the seaside on Saturday.  DB always tells me a story about a monkey who shoplifts bananas, so she is going to have some bananas hidden up her coat!

I made her a Polka-dot dancing skirt so she can wear it to dance with DB, who is a fabulous dancer:

She has a lovely summery dress to wear to the beach and under her jacket:

Will post bikini pics when it is made!

Edited to say, lingerie and bikini made!

Lace white crochet underwear with rose buds:

This is the bikini she can wear to the beach on Saturday, it is yellow double layered jersey fabric with pink stitching:

Just some bananas left to make which I will do tonight, not bad for 24 hours work, I should really start trying to make my own clothes!
