1  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Suggest New Boards and New Features / More replies per page... on: March 26, 2007 05:18:50 AM
Is there a reason that it is only 10? This is the lowest of all forum's I've seen.  One I post on regularly is 20, but I think that 15 is a better way to go.  Either way, so much clicking "next" is much slower for broadband users than waiting for pages to load, and I think the majority of people are broadband users now, and anyway, with all the images, dial uppers don't have much of a chance as it is...

sorry if that was an incoherant rant.  Its early...
2  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re: Bottle Caps / Snapple Caps / Etc. on: February 06, 2007 09:03:13 PM
I started making a shirt/armour out of them...didnt get too far though.  Have like 8 caps connected.  First flattened them out, drilled a hole, and connected them with galv steel wire.

Isn't room temperature PC already in its glass state?  Would cooling it further really affect it much?

A better question, and another interesting idea - how does it flow with a heat gun?  Can you make cool sculptures?

Just a thought (from my real life as a plastics engineer) Polycarbonate is the material that CD's are made from. its the same stuff thats used in riot shields and safety goggles, etc, so its designed not to break,

but it has two achillies heels,

it is sensitive to scratching, so if you score the CD before you break it, with a sharp point, an awl or nail or something like that, and its also sensitive to temperature. If you make it really cold it should be easier to break (at least thats how the theory goes, some of my students tried this out one frost night with a telephone kiosk, but thats a whole other story)

so scratch it and then put it in the freezer overnight, at the bottom of the freezer so its colder, then smash it with a hammer while still very cold...

let me know how you get on as I havent actually tried this myself!!

Happy smashing

9  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 15 ENTRIES / Robot family of robot parts! on: October 02, 2006 08:43:22 PM

Mommy, daddy, baby, and the dog.  Plus everything you need to make a real, very limited function "robot"! (if all the parts were good).

I was about to take action shots, then my mind went to the gutter...mommy and daddy robot can get it on in private, you dont need to see.  So, maybe some to come :-D.
10  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Re: Feminist Toolbox (Women use tools too dernit!!) on: September 09, 2006 06:32:49 PM
don't take this the wrong way, but I just have to point out the irony of the feminist using decorated tools...

Came out nicely, though.  I like the hammer.
