21  CROCHET / Crochetalongs / Re: hexagon afghan crochetalong on: March 09, 2009 09:48:46 AM

I haven't gotten very far lately because I keep breaking my plastic hooks!  I have something against aluminum ones, I think they split the yarn and are harder to crochet with.  But I broke down and bought one.

I don't know how I break them...my tension isn't too tight.  I think when I'm stressed a hold things tighter.  During my finals last year a snapped my toothbrush in half while brushing my teeth.  Don't worry I didn't snap it against my teeth it just snapped in my hand and I had no idea I was holding it the tightly.

I love LOVE the table cloth.  I have a really big one like this from my great grandmother.  It is my favorite, I take it on picnics with me all through out spring, summer, and fall.  I am curious to see a close up of the tulips.  I agree with everyone else, a tut would be cool.

My boyfriend is very crafty.  (just don't tell him that)  he made me two books.  The first one had original art work in it, and was a hand-bound story about our love.  Then he sent me on a scavenger hunt and I found little pictures that looked like stained-glass.  When I put them over the original artwork in the book they became clues to the next place to go.  It all let to this beautifully crafted wood box.

He also made me a book that he made in photo-shop.  It resembled facebook layout and had some of our best conversations and messages (we knew each other in high school and then reconnected on facebook and then started dating).
He made me two desks.  Ugh...he's AMAZING.  I told him about this swap and he got so excited talking about what "we" could do.  Too bad that he is just too busy to help me because of his work:( these days.

WOW, midnight, your afghan is really starting to take shape!  You have so many hexagons and I love the colors.  I like the way they look, simplified, because it will become something practical that you can have in your living room.  The colorful afghans are So fun, but sadly they wouldn't look good on display in most homes.  I love making something that will be seen daily.

wow i love it! ruffles are always a good thing.

i also love your hair band/fascinator. is it homemade? x

it is! This year my family had a "green" christmas.  We bought american made goods, gave to charity, and made presents for each other.

So that was a headband from my sister-in-law. She made one for me and my two other sisters.  Mine was the prettiest one!  Here is a better picture.

I am a ruffles and feathers kind of girl.

The other night I was at a party and my boyfriend was explaining what cuteoverload.com was and I told my friends that I think it is ridiculous...
a friend said, "so says the girl with a huge bow in her hair!"

That's when it occurred to me that I'm pretty feminine.

I decided to make myself an apron for Valentine's day.  I got the fabric practically for free from a place called Leftovers etc.  http://www.leftoversetc.com/  It is a place that is for teachers, Sunday school teachers, and home schoolers to pick up supplies for crafts.  It costs $4 to fill a medium size brown paper bag.  That's a lot of fabric and buttons.  I've also found some really cool vases, books, patterns, patches, all kinds of stuff.  Next time I go I'm getting jars to make terrariums.  Anyway back to the apron...

Here is a picture of me cleaning up my mess after making cake truffles for my BF.

Here is the apron laid out flat.

Here is the back.  I sewed ruffles on some muslin that I had laying around.

Here is what it looks like with the ruffles messed up so you can see how I assembled it.
